Description

PATENTED JULY 26, 1904.
M. G. KESTER.
NETHER GARMENT.
- APPLICATION FILED APR. 11, 1903.
N0 MODEL.
Patented July 26, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
MAUDE C. KESTER, OF CHINOOK, MONTANA.
NETHER GARMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 765,705, dated July 26, 1904.
Application filed April 11, 1903- Serial No. 152,218. (N0 model.)
To all whom it Wmy concern:
Be it known that I, MAUDE C. KEsTER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Chinook, in the county of Chouteau and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Nether Garment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in underwear worn by females, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the convenience and the comfort of the wearer without increasing the expense or rendering the garment cumbersome or unwieldy.
Another object of the invention is to pro- 'duce a garment formed in two sections divisible transversely at a point below the armholes and along the bust-lines, whereby the upper portion may be removed when fulldress costumes are worn.
Other novel features of the invention will appear in the annexed description and be pointed out in the claim following.
, In the drawings illustrative of the invention, in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, Figure 1 is a front view of the improved garment with the parts united. Fig. 2 is a similar View with the parts disconnected. Fig. 3 is a rear view with the parts united.
The improved garment is comprised of two sections, an upper section formed with the sleeves 1O 11, upper back portion 12, and breast portion 13, including the front shoulder portions 14 15.and connected to the breast portion by diagonal flaps 16 17, extending from the neckband 18 to points near the lower line of the armholes and terminating in a horizontal line just below the armholes, being the line commonly known as the bust-line. The lower section comprises the leg portions 19 20 and the trunk portion 21, the latter terminating above the lower terminal of the upper section or close under the arms and provided with a draw-string 22 to enable the lower section to be secured to the person of the wearer independently of the upper section and to enable the upper section to be.
may be removed, if required, when a fulldress costume is worn and the person amply protected by the remainder of the garment, comprising the trunk portion 21 and leg portions 19 20, as the trunk portion extends to a sufficient height to cover the vital organs of the body.
The flaps 14: 15 enable the garment to be more easily removed and replaced and to enable the upper section to be readily adjusted to the person to cause the garment to fit more snugly and prevent any tendency to displacement or irregularity in the fit.
The garment may be made from any of the various materials usually employed for nether garments, and of any desired color, and trimmed and ornamented in the same manner as other garments of this class, and of various sizes, as will be obvious.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A combination-garment comprising an upper section formed with sleeves, neck, upper back and chest portions and terminating on a line slightly below the armholes, and a lower section formed with legs and trunk portions and terminating above the bust-line and below the armholes, said lower section being provided at the top with a draw-string, and means for detachably connecting said sections below said draw-string.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of twowitnesses.
