Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1905.
Application filed April 11, 1905. Serial NO- 254,906-
T0 all whom, it Til/[LU concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD W. J EANSON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Undergarments, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to ladies undergarments; and the object thereof is to provide a garment of this class which consists of different parts and which may be worn as a pair of drawers only or as a-pair of drawers and a petticoat, my invention consisting of whatmay be called a combination garment adapted to be used as drawers only or as drawers and petticoat combined when desired.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view showing the construction and use of my improved combination-garment, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing an overskirt.
In the practice of my invention I provide a pair of drawers 0, which may be of the usual or any desired construction and may be composed of any preferred material and the legs of which are preferably terminated at or slightly above the knees. I also provide two skirt members Z), which are made in the form of skirts and which are adapted to be secured to and around the lower ends of the legs of the drawers, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and this connection may be made by means of buttons secured to the legs of the drawers and buttonholes formed in the tops of the skirt members 6, or said connection may be made in any desired manner.
The skirt members I) constitute when in use a petticoat and take the place of a petticoat, and the combined appearance thereof when an overskirt c is worn, as in Fig. 2, is the same as that of any other petticoat.
The skirt members I) may be composed of any desired material and are made loose and flowing at the bottom, so as to produce, in effect, the appearance of an ordinary petticoat when in use, and a number of these skirt members 6 may be provided to correspond in material and color with any particular overskirt which it is desired to wear.
When it is not desired to wear the skirt members 6, which form the petticoat, in the manner herein described, the same may be left off or taken off, and the drawers a may then be worn in the usual manner.
My improvement, as will be seen, avoids the necessity of a petticoat or similar garment which extends above and is secured above the hips, and my improvement also affords greater freedom of movement and less weight of material is required.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that my improvement consists of a combin-ation-undergarment for ladies, comprising two parts detachably connected, one of said parts comprising an ordinary pair of trunks or drawers and the other comprising looselyflowing skirt members detachably connected with the legs of the trunks or drawers at or near the knees, and it will be apparent that the said skirt members may be made of any desired width, the top portions thereof being gathered or contracted in such a manner as to be easily and conveniently secured to the legs of the trunks or-drawers.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A ladys garment of the class described, comprising a pair of drawers which terminate approximately at the knees and separate loose and flowing skirt members detachably connected therewith, substantially as shown and described.
2. A ladys combination-garment of the class described, comprising a pair of drawers and separate loosely-flowing skirt members adapted to be connected with each leg thereof, substantially as shown and described.
3. In agarment of the class described, a pair of skirt members adapted to be connected with the legs of a pair of drawers and to inclose each leg below the knee and forming when in use a petticoat, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 10th day of April, 1905.
BERNHARD W. J EANSON Witnesses:
F. A. STEWART, O. D. MULREANY.
