Description

F. NICOLLE.
CHILDS CRIB.
APPLICATION FILED MAII. 29. 191s.
L?. Patented Aug. 27, 1918.
FRANK NICOLLE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO SALI-SBURY & SATTER- LEE CO., OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION.
CHILDS CRIB.
Application filed March 29, 1916.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK NicoLLE, citizen of the Dominion of Canada, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a means for supporting the side rail of a childs crib which will dispense with the usual swinging latch or hook that is gener'- ally employed for-this purpose.
A further object is to provide a supporting means which will be positive and reliable in its action and always be in position for engagement with the rail when the side of the bed is raised.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a side view of a childs crib with my invention applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a view, partly in section, illustrating the manner of mounting the support on the crib post,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the post above the crib side, l
Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views, showing the locked and unlocked positions of the side of the crib.
In the drawing, 2 and 3 represent the head and foot posts of the crib, having bed rails 4: between them. 5 represents the fixed or stationary side of the crib, extending above the bed rails in the usual way and 6 are upright parallel rods mounted on the posts of the crib on opposite sides thereof from the part 5. The rods 6 are loosely mounted at their lower ends in lugs 7 projecting horizontally from the posts 2 and the upper ends of said rods are mounted to slide in slots 8 provided in brackets 9 which are secured to the posts by suitable means, such as screws 10. The rods 6 have a limited rocking movement from one end to the other of the slots 8. 'Ihe brackets 9 are also provided with recesses 12 forming hooks with openings 13 leading thereto, and rails 14 and 15 forming the side of the crib opposite Specification of Letters Patent. I

to the side 5 are mounted to slide vertically on the rods 6 from the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2 to that illustrated by full lines. The rail 14 has projecting ends 16 which drop into the hooks 12 and rest therein, the rail 14 sliding vertically on the rods to disengage it from the hooks.
In using the device, the side of the crib is raised to the position indicated in Fig. 5. Then the rods are swung inwardly Luitil they reach the inner ends of the slots 8. The ends 16 of the rail 14 have then passed through the openings 13 and when the side is released it will drop-down on the rods to the position shown in Fig. 4. To disengage the side of the crib the rail 11 is lifted and pushed outwardly through the opening 13, the rods 6 swinging in the slots 8 to permit such movement. As soon as the rail 14 is clear of the hooks, it may drop down on the rods to the lower ends thereof or to the position illustrated in Fig. 1.
In various ways the details of construction herein shown and described may be modified and still be within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
The combination, with crib posts, of angle brackets secured thereon and having hori- Zontally projecting plate-like portions provided with slots extending transversely of the crib, said brackets also having depending portions secured to said posts in planes transverse to the crib and having recesses therein and openings in their inner edges leading to said recesses, upright rods mounted for oscillation at the lower ends of said posts and having their upper ends free to slide back and forth in said slots transversely of the crib, a cribside mounted to slide vertically on said rods and having pins projecting from the ends thereof for entering the openings leading to said recesses, the slots in said plate-like portions extending inwardly beyond said openings to allow said pins to be inserted into or withdrawn from said recesses in closing or opening the cribside.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of March, 1916.
FRANK NIGOLLE.
