To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL SYLVESTER KoLB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a folding crib and the object of my, invention is to provide a crib which is absolutely rigid in construction so that it may be lifted and moved when in the open position; which may be readily folded when not in use, and which will automatically lock itself in the open position. i
My invention also consists in various novel features of construction and arrangement of. the parts which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings in which like references refer to like parts, 1, is the body which is supported by cross legs 2, arranged in pairs at either side of the body. Each pair of the legs 2, is pivoted upon a bolt 3. The legs 2, are provided with rollers 4, which facilitate in opening and closing the crib and also in moving the crib When in either the open or closed position. The body 1, consists of the upper frame members 6 and 7, and the lower frame members 8 and 9, which are made in pairs and pivotally connected adjacent to the center of the crib so that the body may be folded.
The frame members are U-shape and preferably made of flat metal. The upper pair of frame members 6 and 7, are pivotally connected to sliding plates 12, at each side of the crib, and the lower frame members 8 and 9, are pivotally connected to bearing brackets 14, carried by the main pivot bolts 3, on which the cross legs 2, are pivoted.
The upper ends of the legs 2 are pivoted to the upper frame members 6 and 7, at I points about midway between the centerof the crib and the ends of the crib and said pivot points act as fulcrums for the upper frame members and cause the center sliding plates 12, to move up and down when the Specification of Letters Patent.

vertical slots 15, through which the main pivot bolts 3, of the cross legs 2, pass, thus allowing the said sliding plates 12, to move freely.
Upon the bearing brackets 14, are spring pawls or catches 16, which enter the top of the slots 15, formed in the sliding plates 12, and prevent the sliding plates 12, from moving downwardly beyond a position which will hold the upper frame members 6 and 7, in a horizontal position, and as the main pivot bolts 3 are at the bottom of the said slots 15, formed in the sliding plates 12, when the crib is open, the upward movement of the sliding plates 12, is limited. Thus the sliding plates 12, when locked, are rigidly held in aposition which will keep the upper frame members horizontal and the crib can be lifted by the upper frame members, or the crib may be moved about upon the rollers 4, by using the upper frame members as handles without the crib collapsing.
To release the sliding plates 12, so that the crib may be folded, as shown in Fig. 3., it is only necessary to push the spring pawls 16, inwardly and free them from the slots 15, formed in the sliding plates 12, to allow the latter to move downwardly, which will draw the inner ends of the upper frame members 6 and 7 down with the sliding plates 12, into a vertical position and also draw the cross legs 2, together. When the upper frame members 6 and 7 are againopened the spring pawls 16, will spring into the slots 15, of the sliding plates 12, and au- Zomatically lock the body in the open posiion.
The bearing brackets-14, are held from rocking upon the main pivot bolts 3, by lugs 18, which project intothe slots 15, formed in the sliding plates 12, thus insuring the spring paw1s16, entering the said slots 15, and also holding the bearing brackets 14, rigidly in a vertical position and thus forming a suitablesupport for the lower frame members 8 and 9, which are'pivoted to the cross plates 20, rigidly secured to the bearing brackets 14, or they may be made an integral part of the latter. A brace 21,'is provided which extends between the bearing brackets 14, upon opposite sides of the body, and makes the crib rigid. The outsideends of the lower frame members 8 and 9 are supported from the upper frame members 6 and 7 by ifiexiblecorner pieces 22, which are preferably made of canvas and the sides of the body are made of openmesh fabric 23, as shown.

of the lower frame members-and one half of the bottom 24, may beinclined at any angle desired. A'strap 30, (showninFig. is provided for securing'the frame members 6 and 7 together when in the closed position.
By constructing the crib intheabove described mannera perfectly rigid body is ob- A tainedi By employing the sliding plate 12, having a slot formed therein into which the Y ipivot bolt 3 and the pawl 16, enter to prevent the sliding plate- 12, moving when the crib is in t heopen position and by pivoting the upper frame-members to the'cross legs andfto the top of the sliding plate, a triangular/brace construction is formed which holds the upper frame members absolutely rigid and in a horizontal position.
*Having thus described my invention, I claim anddesire tosecure by Letters Patent:
l. A crib comprising-a'body'having upper frame members, a sliding plate, cross legs and a pivot bolt, all secured together to form a triangular brace construction to hold the upper frame members-of the body in a rigid horizontal position.
2. A crib comprising a body having upper frame members, a sliding plate, cross legs, a pivot bolt and meansforlocking the sliding plate to form a rigid construction to hold the upper frame'members of the body in a horizontal position.
3. A crib comprising a body havingupper frame members, a sliding plate havin'gavertical slot formed therein, cross legs, a pivot bolt passing" through the cross legs and through the sliding plate to limit the upward movement of the sliding plate, means for limiting the downward movement of the sliding plate, and means for pivotally connecting-theupper frame members with the upper ends of the cross legs and with the sai'dsliding plate.
, 4. A crib comprisinga body having upper frame members, a sliding plate having a slot formed thereln, cross legs, a pivot bolt passing through thecross legs and through the sliding plate to limit the upward movement of the silding plate, a bearing bracket carried by the said pivot bolt, a pawl on said bearing bracket adapted to enter the sliding plate and limit the downward movement of the same, and means for pivotally connecting the upper frame members with the upper ends of the cross legs and with the said sliding plate.
5. A crib comprising a body having upper and lower frame members, a sliding plate to which the upper frame members are pivotally connected, cross legs, a pivot bolt, a bearing bracket carried by the said pivot bolt, a cross-piece on said bearing bracket to which the lower frame members are pivotally connected, and means for supporting the outer ends of the lower frame members from said upper frame members.
6. A crib comprising a body having upper and lower frame members, a sliding plate having a vertical slot formed therein, cross legs, a pivot bolt passing through the cross legs and through the sliding plate, a bearing bracket carried by the pivot bolt, a lug formed on the bearing bracket adapted to enter'the slot formed in the sliding plate and hold the bearing bracket rigid, and a cross-piece on the bearing bracket to which the lower frame members are pivoted.

8. A crib comprising a body having upper and lower frame members, a sliding plate to which the upper frame members are pivotally connected,cross legs, a pivot bolt connecting the cross legs and the sliding plate, a bearing bracket carried by said pivot bolt to which the lower frame members are pivoted and a stay between a lower frame member and one of the legs adapted to hold the lower frame member at any angle.

A crib comprising a body having upper and lower U-shape frame members, sliding plates'to which the ends of the upper frame members are attached, cross legs at either side of the body, pivotbolts passing through the cross legs and the sliding plate at one side ofthe body, bearing brackets carried by the pivot bolts, 'a brace connecting the bearing brackets at either side of the body, I L

sliding plates to which the ends of the upper frame members are attached, cross legs at either side of the body, pivot bolts passing through the cross legs and the sliding plate at one side of the body, bearing brackets carried by the pivot bolts, a brace connecting the bearing brackets at either side of the body, cross-pieces upon said bearing brackets, to which the lower frame members are attached, flexible corner pieces to support the lower frame members, fabric Walls forming the body, said sliding plate having a slot formed therein, a lug on the bearing bracket adapted to enter the slot formed in the sliding plate, a spring pawl carried by 15 the bearing bracket adapted to enter the slot formed in the sliding plate, and a bottom suspended from the lower frame members.
