Description

E. MCC.l GRHNCIN.A CHILD'S wAisT AND SUPPGRTEH.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 26. 191?.
@Mcm/umu;
Wilt n no ED'YTI- IVIGGOLLOUGH GRIFFIN, OF FAYETTE, OHIO.,
CHILDS VJAIST AND SUEPORTER,
Application tiled May 26, 191?.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, EDYTI-I MoCoLLoUGH GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fayette, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Childs Waist and Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application `is a waist, adapted to be worn ordinarily but not exclusively by children, and the invention aims to provide a simple but efficient means whereby the garments may be suspended from the waist.
t is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description pro ceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view showing a waist constructed in accordance with the present invention, parts being broken away;
Fig. 2 is fragmental section taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The waist forming the subject matter of this application preferably is made of cloth and includes sides 2, front sections 3 and 3a and a back 1, these parts, if desired, being'` fashioned in a single piece. rThe sides 2 are supplied with arm notches 4, and the upper edges 5 of the front sections 3 and 3 slant downwardly, to give the waist the desired low cut at the front. The arm notches 4 may be strengthened by reinforcing strips 6, the back is reinforced at its upper edge by a strip 7, and the edges 5 of the front sections 3 and 3a are reinforced by strips 50. The front section 3 is provided with but-tons 8 adapted to coperate with button holes 9 in the front section 3a, to hold the waist in shape around the body of the wearer.
A waist band section 10, which may be a length of strong webbing or tape is secured to the front section 3, to one of the sides 2 and to the back 1, the inner end of the waist band section 10 being free, as shown at 11,

and carrying a buckle 12 or other suitable device whereby the circumferential contour of the waist may be adjusted. A waist band section 14 is attached to the front section 3, to the corresponding side 2 and 'to the back 1, the section 14 terminating in a free tongue 15, adapted to cooperate with the buckle 12 or its equivalent, to secure the necessary circumferential adjustment in the garment.
Reinforeing strips 16 are secured to the waist along the lines where the frontsections 3 and 3 merge into the sides 2, the re inforcing strap 16 extending upwardly to the upper edges of the front sections 3 and 3H. Attached to the upper ends of the straps 16 and disposed adjacent the arm notches 4 are cam buckles 17 or their equivalents, Shoulder straps 18 are secured to the garment along the lines of juncture between the sides 2 and the back 1 and extend upwardly above the upper edge of the back 1 to form free ends 19 adapted to coperate with the cam buckles 17 and with the arm notches 4 to form arm holes. The lower ends of the straps 16 and 18 extend beneath the waist band sections 10 and 14. Located between the straps 16 and 18 are downwardly converging reinforcing strips 20 which are secured to the sides 2. Disposed between the shoulder straps 18 is a V-shaped reinforcing ,strip 21, the same being secured throughout a portion of its length to the back 1, and the strips 2O being secured to the sides 2. The upper ends of the strips 20 are engaged beneath the straps 16 and 18, and the lower ends of the strips 20 are engaged between the waist band sections 10 and 14. The V- shaped reinforcing strip 21 is attached'to the back 1, however, only to a point indicated at 22, so that the lower end of the i strip 21 forms a free tl-shaped flap 23. rlhe numeral 24 denotes an endless loop, the sides of which are secured as shown at 25 in Fig. 4, throughout a portion of their length, to the side portions of the flap 23. The upper end of the loop 24 forms a depending bight 26 threaded through a button 27, and the lower end of the loop 24 forms a depending bight 2S threaded through a button 29, the buttons 27 and 29 being used to support the garments of the wearer. ln practical opera tion, when the tongue 15 is engaged with the buckle 12, the garments are held on the but tons 27 and 29, and the loop 24, as well as the rights 26 and 28 are held down. against roe the body portion of the garment, beneath the tongue l5.
In the outer end of thewaist band section 14 there is fashioned a button hole 30 through which may be passed a tongue 32 on the outer end of the waist line section 10, the tongue 32 carrying a button 31 adapted to be used to aid in supporting the garments of the wearer. Other buttons 33 may be connected with the waist band sections 10 and 14 at any desired points, by means of tongues 3i, for the purpose of aiding in upholding the garments.
The upper ends of main loops 35, which maybe cords or other flexible elements, are
engaged beneath the lower edges of the waist band sections 10 and 14. Mounted to reciprocate on the loops 35 are riders 36 straps 44 which are connected to diverging tabs 45 provided with hose supporters 416.
Owing to the specific arrangement of such elements as thevparts 10, 14, 16, Q0, 18, and `21, the strength of the waistis enhanced greatly and the same is adapted to withstand the longitudinal pull thereon by the stockings with which the supports L16 are- Y assembled.
It is to be observed that the ends 19 of the shoulder straps may be engaged adjustably with the cam buckles 17, in orderto vary the effective length of thegarment,
and to regulate the pull on the stockings which are connected with the supports 46.
The circumferential measurement of the garmentV at thev waist may be altered by engaging the tongue 15 with the buckle 12.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A waist including a body; a reinforcing strip including a V-shaped free end, the strip being secured throughout a portion of its length tothebody to form said free end; a loop. attached in its intermediateportion to said free end and comprising a free upper bight and a free lower bight; and buttons through which said bightsare threaded.
2. A waist includingl a body k a reinforcing strip including a V-shaped free end, the strip being secured throughout aportion of its length to the body to form said free end; a loop attached in its intermediatelportion to said free endk and comprising a. free upper bight and ay free lowerbight; and but tons through which;saidbightsr are threaded; waist band sections secured to the body and having free ends, theV free end of the reinforcing strip and the `bightslying beneath the freeend of one of the waist band sections; and means for connecting the free ends of the waist band sections together detachably.
In testimony that I cla-im theg-Vforegoing as my own, I have hereto 4aflixeld my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
