Be it known that I, CARL R. KLOK, a citi- Zen of the United States of America, and resident of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Table-Beds, of which the following is a speciiica'tion.

My invention relates to table beds of that kind in which the folding bed frame is mounted to revolve or rotate about a hori- Zontal axis, while in a folded condition, whereby the rectangular bundle formed by the folded bed frame is movable relative to the table body, when the same is to be folded or unfolded.

The object of my invention, as herein shown and described, is to provide a .novel construction and arrangement whereby the axis of rotation of the bed frame is movable about another axis, as by rotatively mounting the bed frame on a swinging carrier frame, wherebyrthe bed is movable about a plurality of axes, when in a folded condition, and is not fixed in the table body.

It is also an object to provide certain details and combinations tending to increase the general eiiiciency of a table bed of this particular character.

To the foregoing and other usual ends, my invention consists in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed.

As thus illustrated, my invention comprises a table body A, having legs a, disposed at the four corners thereof, and having fixed end walls al and a fixed side wall a2, the top a3 and other side wall at being removable in any suitable or desired manner.

The folding bed B comprises a rectangular iron frame composed of sections o, b1 and 52 which are pivotally connected together by links b3 and b4, the latter being shorter than the former. A carrier frame C is pivoted on the end walls ofthe table at c, and the section b is pivotedon said carrier frame at c1, whereby the bed frame, when folded in the manner shown in Fig. 3, is adaptedto rotate about a horizontal axis, while the said carrier frame is in a vertical position. `W hen the bed frame is folded, the section o2 is disposed between sections Z) and4 b1, and space is also provided forthe mattress and bedding. A strapb5 can be provided for holding the bed frame in folded condition, and the carrierffraine may be provided withr pivoted locks or catches c2 Vvfor engaging the vbed frame, whereby the :latter is locked` and held parallel with the carrier frame. In this condition, the carrier frame andkbed frame can be swung upward and over, in the direction of the table body, until the carrier frame rests on thestop D, .which latter is ifixedon the table body, In such position the swivel section bis upside down. I 1When the bed is extended as shown in Fig. 4 the frame is supportedl by pivoted legs Fi, of any suitable character, connected to the links b3 and b4 at their upper ends by long links e and el, whereby these legs automaticallylfold and unfold when the bed frame is folded and unfolded also.; and when the bed frame is extended the links b? are prevented from sagging by the stops F which engage the endy of the section ZJ, holdingA it in the position shown in Fig. 4; but these stops F are pivoted at f, if `found desirablekor necessary,fso that they may be folded fiat-wisc against the inner surface of the end wall' al, thus preventing interference withthe foldino and unfolding of the bed frame. To unfold the bed frame, the carrier frame C is lifted upward from the stop D, and brought over and thendownward to the position shown in Fig. 8, and then the strap b5 is detached and the bed frame unfolded. rl`hus the bed is brought to a large extent outside of the table, and only projects a short distance within the table when in use. Any suitable means can be employed for making the table top a3 and at removable to permit said folding and unfolding of the bed.

With the foregoing construction, therefore,'it will be seen that the invention involves one method of combining a table with a transversely folding bed frame, the sections of which are in three superimposed layers when folded, in such a manner that the bed is of proper height when unfolded and whereby the table is also of the proper or standard height when the bed is folded. Furthermore, notwithstanding the fact that the bed folds into three superimposed layers, the table is characterized by sufficient clearance below, so that it can be used comfortably and without inconvenience like an ordinary table. Again, the bed when of standard length, and when entirely folded, in combination with the structure shown, results in a table of the ordinary or usual width employed for library or similar tables, so that the table can be moved around and pushed through ordinary doorways in the usual manner. The invention, there-fore, affords one way of solving some ofthe problems involved in so combining a folding bed frame of this kind with a table so that the result will be a structure which is a satisfactory table and also a. satisfactory bed, the standard requirements of neither one being sacrificed to the other. But, of

lNhat I claim as my invention isl. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, means to support said frame, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame.

2. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, said carrier frame being pivoted to swing directly upward from its position in the table, to bring said bed frame into position for unfolding.

3. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, said bed frame including pivotally connected sections, one of which sections is swiveled on the carrier frame, and said swiveled section being upside down when the bed is folded within the table.

el. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side., a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, said bed frame having provisions whereby a mattress may be folded therewith.

5. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, and means for locking the frames together when the bed is folded.

6. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, and means for engaging the bed frame, when the bed is unfolded, carried on the body.

7. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted on said carrier frame, and means fixed on the body for supporting said frames within the table and engaging the carrier frame when the bed is folded. 8. A table bed comprising a body having a movable top and side, a carrier frame movably mounted on said body, and a folding bed frame rotatively mounted between its ends on said carrier frame, said bed frame including pivotally connected sections, linlrs connecting the sections, providing space for a mattress, and folding legs for the bed frame.
