Mama I i (1 cl adapted when in engagement to prevent UNITED STATES PATENT RQSE ETTINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDENG TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,955, dated March 6, 1894.
Application filed November 17, 18 93 To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROSE ETTINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Tables, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
The object of my invention is to so construct an article of furniture that it may be used as a table when adjusted to one position, and when folded or ad'usted to another position, may serve as a dressing case and writing table or similar article of furniture.
The invention consists of the construction hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the drawings,in which similar letters denote corresponding parts, Figure l is a side elevation of my invention when arranged in the form of a table, one end being shown turned up on its hinge as indicated in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my invention when arranged in the form of a dressing table. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of my invention as shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a rear elevation thereof.
A and B represent two parts of a table hinged together at b. The legs 0 support the part A, and the legs D support the outer end of the part B. The legs 0 are secured firmly to the part A and the legs I) are suitably hinged to the part B and providedwith catches these legs turning on their hinges.
IV hen my invention is to be used as a table the legs D are fastened in place by their catches and the part B is turned down so as to lie in the same plane as the part A and the catches ff fastened, as shown in Fig. 1.
When it is desired to adjust my invention to the form of a dressing case, the legs D are unfastened and turned under the part Bwhich is then elevated or turned up to a vertical position. It is locked in this position by means of a link a and pin a. The folding leg E, which is carried by the part B, is also let down from its hook 6 so as to firmly support the part B in position. The panels G and II are hinged to the part-B forming, when turned SerialNo-49L188. (llomcdeh) down, a part of the table surface, and when in this position are held in place by spring catches g and h, but when my invention is adjusted for a dressing table these panels are turned down on their hinges, being held in place by suitable supports. Beneath these panels are arranged the mirrors G and H respectively. Beneath the part A are arranged drawers K and L and a writing surface J.
Various changesmay be made in my invention without departing from the spirit thereof. For instance the legE may be omitted and the section B supported in elevated position by any suitable means as by locks on the hinges b, and the panels may fold by means of hinges or otherwise as desired. Other details may also be changed as desired.
In practice my invention when in the form of a dressing case is ordinarily pushed. against the wall which will then serve as an additional support.
Having now described myinventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a combined table and dressing case, the combination of a fixed table section A supported by legs 0, a table section B hinged at one end to the section A and provided with folding legs D, the section 13 having folding panels adapted when unfolded to form shelves or pockets, and when folded down to lie flush with the surface of the section B, substantially as set forth.
2. In a combined table and dressing case the combination of a fixed table section A supported by legs 0, a table sectionB hinged at one end to the section A and supported at its other end by folding legs I), said section B having mirrors G and H and folding panels adapted, when folded down, to cover said mirrors and lie flush with the surface of the section B, and when unfolded to uncover said mirrors and form shelves or pockets, and said section A having one or more drawers and a writing surface J substantially as set forth.
' ROSE ETTINGER.
