To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, DAVID H. Hours, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in earing-Apparel,

of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to wearing apparel and has as its object to provide a novel arrangement of belt slides at the waist band of a pair of trousers and at the waist line of a vest to be worn in connection with the trousers, the arrangement being such that the ordinary belt may be inserted through the belt loops upon the two articles of apparel and will connect the two in such manner as to prevent the trousers slipping down and prevent the vest riding up so that there will be no likelihood of a gap occurring between the waist band of the trousers and the lower edge of the vest.

Another aim of the invention is to so arrange the belt loops upon the vest that the vest will be restrained against riding up at points where such movement is most likely to occur and incidentally the invention contemplates locating one of the belt loops upon the vest directly at the inner side of the button carrying or right hand side or flap of the vest so that the front of the vest will be held snugly in place and will at all times present a neat and smooth appearance.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the invention.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the meeting portions of the vest and trousers, one of the loops being shown in elevation and the other in section and the belt which is passed through the loops being shown in section.

Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. d, illustrating a further modification of the invention.

In the drawings the reference character T indicates in general the waist band of a pair of trousers and the reference character V in dicates in general a vest to be worn in con nection with the trousers. The numeral 1 indicates the ordinary belt loops provided upon the trousers for the insertion therethrough of the belt which is indicated by the numeral 2. As before stated, a number of belt loops are provided also upon the inner side of the vest at the waist line thereof and by reference to Fig. 4 of the drawings it will be observed that one of these loops, indicated by the numeral 3, is located at the back seam of the vest and that one of the loops, indicated at 4:, is located at each of the side seams of the vest, a fourth loop, indicated by the numeral 5, being arranged at the inner side of the front of the vest near the edge of the right hand or button carrying side or flap thereof.

In that form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive the loops which are carried by the vest comprise each a suitable length of tape 6 stitched as at 7 at its upper and lower ends to the lining of the vest. With the loops arranged in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings, the belt 2 is to be threaded through the loops 3 and 4; of the vest and the belt loops upon the trousers and finally that end of the belt opposite the end at which the buckle is located is inserted through the loop 5. The belt is then buckled and the vest may be buttoned in the ordinary manner. The engagement of the belt in the loop 3 of the vest will, of course, prevent the rear side of the vest working up above the waist band of the trousers and the loops 4 will prevent the side portions of the vest working up. The loop 5, by reason of its location at the front of the I vest will prevent the right hand side or flap of the vest from rising above the waist band of the trousers and as the left hand side or flap of the vest is buttoned to the right hand side, it also will be restrained against such movement.

While loops of the form shown in the previously described figures of the drawings will hold the vest in shape and so that it will fit snugly and smoothly, it may be found desirable to substitute for these loops, loops of the form shown in Fig. of the drawings.

In this latter form a suitable length of tape is formed into a loop indicated by the numeral 8 and the ends of the tape are united by lines of stitching 9 Which pass also through the lining of the vest, the united ends of the tape being located uppermost so that the loop 8 Will depend and be free from attachment at its inner side to the lining of the vest. lVhere loops of this form are employed, the vest will be securely held against riding up and yet may have the appearance of fitting or hanging comparatively loosely.

In both of the forms of loops above described it is necessary that the belt be threaded end first therethrough but where this is not desirable a loop of the form shown in Fig. 6 may be employed. This loop comprises a suitable length of tape or a strip of material indicated at 10 which at one end is united by stitching as at 11 to the lining of the vest, the other end of the tape being free and formed with a button hole 12 for en gagement with a button 18 stitched to the first mentioned or secured end of the tape. In this form of loop the belt may be engaged within the folded tape or strip and the free end of the strip may then be buttoned to the attached end thereof. This form of loop, of

course, provides for ready disconnection of the vest from the belt so that the former may be removed without disturbing the adjustment of the latter.

In Fig. 7 of the drawings there is illustrated a further modification in the loop structure, the loop in this instance being indicated by the numeral 14: and being formed from a suitable strip of sheet metal stamped to form the loop portion and attaching ends 15 which are stitched or otherwise secured to the lining of the vest.

In that form of the invention shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings, loops 16 are formed by making parallel slits in the lining material of the vest and in suitably stitching or hemming the material at the opposite sides of the slits.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is: i

As a new article of manufacture, a vest or similar garment provided upon its inner side at its back with a belt loop and provided upon its inner side approximately at each side seam with a belt loop, and further provided at the inner side of the front of one of its flaps with a belt loop.
