waist portion and a trousers or trunk portion, one of which is formed with a bifurcated belt-band adapted to receive the lower part of the waist-portion, and provided with fastenings for securing one to the other. It has also for its object to provide improved features of construction in the garment, and each of its two parts, which jointly contribute to make possible the making of a union garment in which the parts may be readily assembled and also separated, and which result in saving of material and cost of production, all as hereinafter particularly described and then sought to be clearly defined by the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which:

In the drawlng, the letter A designates the body or waist portion of the garment,

and B the trousers or trunk portion. The waist portion will be made of any suitable material, woven, knit, or otherwise made, and will have openings 0 for the arms of the wearer, which may be provided with 55,

sleeves, not illustrated, as they form no partof the invention, and may be provided or omitted, as desired. Sleeves D, however, as illustrated in Figure 5,: may be provided. If desired'the front of the waist A may 'be 0 formed with a vertical opening as indicated 1 at E, provided with suitable fasten'ings, as for instance buttons F, for convenience in applying the waist over the head of the wearer, or otherwise, although such opening 5 is not essential in all cases. The lower portion of the waist is formed with a hem "G, about three inches in depth, either by folding the material upon itself, or by a separately applied hem-strip, as illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawing, and secured by suitable stitching, as indicated at a, or otherwise. This hem is a reinforcement around the lower portion of the body or waist and also serves for the easy insertion of the hemmed portion within the bifurcated beltband of the trousers or trunk portion of the garment, and also provides for lengthening or shortening adjustment to afford a neater and more comfortable fitting of the garment to the body of the wearer. The hem of the waist will be formed with a desired number of button holes 12 disposed at suitable intervals apart to receive fastenings, preferably buttons 0, attached to the inner face of one flap of the bifurcated belt-band of the trousers or trunk portion of the garment, and the inner. and outer flaps of the bifurcated belt-band will be formed with button holes 6 in rows arranged in vertical and circumferentia'lly spaced relation to one another as clearly shown in Fig. 8 of the drawing. It is preferred to employ two rows of the button-holes b, one above the other as illustrated, with the larger number at the front, and one at each side, and a single one at the rear, although the number and their positioning may be varied,'so as to provide for verticaladjustment for lengthening or shortening, depending on the seline than if the buttons be passed through registering button holes disposed in a higher circumferential row and a neat. and more comfortable fit of the garment to the body of the wearer is obtained. By contracting the skirt or hemmed portion ofthe waist and the adjacent ends of the belt-band H so that the vertical row of buttons 0 of the belt will pass through. registering button holes 1") of the waist hem and also a corresponding vertical row of button holes I) of'the two fiys of the belt band circumferential contraction is provided, and by moving or spreading the parts in the opposite direction and passing the buttons 0 through the corresponding row of vertical button holes 6 of the two flys expansion of the waist line is provided and a more comfortable fit of the garments obtained, together with a neater appearance. The circumferential adjustment of the garment will depend upon which of the vertical rows of button holes I) are selected to receive the vertical row of buttons 0.

The bifurcated belt-band for the trunk or trousers part of the garment is designated by the letter H. It may be formed by stitching the upperv edge of the belt-band to the upper edge of the trousers or trunks and also the lower edge to the garment by stitches (Z, as indicated in Figure 7 of the drawing.

Instead of making the belt-band in a sepa rate piece and stitching it to the upper portion of the trousers part of the gament, it may be made from the material forming the lower garment and folded upon itself at what will be the upper edge of the belt as shown at 6 Fig. 9, and given another fold at what will be the bottom of the belt and belt band, and the buttons attached to the inner flap of the belt will be passed through the button holes of the waist which register therewith and then through the button holes in the outer flap of the belt so as to secure the upper and lower members of the garment together with thelower edge of the upper garment or waist held and concealed within the bifurcated belt-band of the lower or trousers portion of the garment. This will afford a neatness in appearance where one garment is joined to the other and one prevented from pulling away from the other, and material which ordinarily forms the skirt of the upper garment or waist is saved. A two-in-one garment is thus provided, and inwhich one part may be. readily replaced by another corresponding part, and either may be purchased separately from the other, and the two readily combined to form a waist and also trousers garment, combined.

The belt-band may have any desired number of pockets, such as I, or otherwise, formedtherein, and when the two flaps of the band are secured to each other by the fasteners, such as the buttons, the pocket ill: be securely closed by the button 0 attached to one flap ofthe bifurcated beltbandfland adapted to engage the opposite button hole. in the. other flap as shown in Fig. 4, and abstraction of its contents pre vented.

The features of the invention may be used in sport clothes, and with union suits, and

in overalls, and various other wearing apparels' made up of waist and of trousers or trunk parts.

I have illustrated and described with particularly the preferred details of the inventive features but changes may be made therein. without departing from the essential features sought to be defined by the appended claims.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim is:

1. In a two-part garment comprising waist and trunk portions; a bifurcated beltband attached to one of said portions in position to receive the other portion as an insert, the belt-band formed with fastenings on one flap positioned to pass through button holes in the insert and also through button holes in the other flap of the belt-band to fasten the parts together, the insert of the garment being formed with areinforcement hem along its lower edge, and said hem formed with button-holes arranged in vertical and circumferentially spaced relatlon toprovide for vertical adjustment of one portion of the garment relatively to the other portion, said belt band being also provided with circumferentially spaced button holes for selectively receiving a button toprovide for circumferential adjustment of the-garment.

2. In a two-part garment comprising waist and trunk portions; a bifurcated beltband attached to one of said portions in position to receive the other portion as an insert, and means for fastening the insert to the two flaps of the belt-band, saidmeans being positioned to provide for circumferential and vertical adjustment of the two portions of the garment.

3. In a two-part garment comprising waist and trunk portions; a bifurcated beltband attached to one of said portions in position to receive the other portion as an insert, a pocket positioned between the flaps of the belt-band, and means for fastening together the insert portion andthe belt-band at a point above the mouth of the pocket.
