Description

PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM CLARK HAYS AND JOHN SEA PANCAKE, OF SABONVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN GIRTS.
Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,610, dated August 29, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM CLARK HAYS and JOHN SEA PANGAKE, of Sharonville, in the county of Pike and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Girts, and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon. making a part of this specification.
rIhe'nature of our invention consists in asaddlegirt made of alternate layers of rubber and cloth, and provided at its ends with leather pieces riveted to the girt for securing the buckles, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the a-rt to which our invention appertains to make and use the saine, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view, and Fig. 2 an edge view of our girt.
A represents a strap, made of rubber of suitable length and width for a saddle-girt, across the ends of which are placed leather pieces B B. The tongue of a buckle, C, passes through the center of the leather strap or piece B at each end of the girt, as shown, and the ends of each piece B are riveted together and to the girt, the said piece or strap thus inclosing the end ofthe girt.
The girt thus constructed is more durable than any other now in use. Water will not penetrate it, and it will always remain soft and pliable. The riveting of the leather straps does away with the old style of stitching and makes the girt much stronger.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the girt A, composed of altern ate layers of rubber an d cloth, lea-ther straps B B, and buckles G C, the straps being riveted to the girt, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 25th day of April, 1871.
