Description

JAMES vA. PUTT.
Imprgvement -n Thill Holder for Harnessl N0;118,888. Patented Aug. 22,8871.
5gg 1 B -f-g Q13 O UNITED STATES JOSEPH A. BUTT, OF MARLBOROUGH, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN THlLL-HOLDERS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,388, dated August 22,1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. PUTT, of Marlborough, in the county of Stark and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thill-Holder; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a thill-tug for single harness, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its conconstruction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 2 a side view of my thill-tug.
A represents a ring, of suitable dimensions, made of cast or malleable iron in elliptic form, and having a recess, a, formed at each end. The recesses a a form bearings for metal loops B B,
placed therein, and confined to their place by theleather covering O, which entirely incloses the ring A. From the center of the ring A, on the outside, projects a pin or stationary tongue, b, which passes through the covering O, and upon which the bearer-strap D is hooked, said strap passing under the loops B B, as shown in Fig. l. This thill-tug is very durable, and at the same time easy on the bearer-strap. It does away with a buckle, and always retains its proper shape. Vhen the inside leather wears out it can be replaced for a trie, making it as good as new; The bearer-strap runs from the gig-tree to the outside belly-band, and passes over the shaft, so that if the thill-tug should give way the shafts cannot drop to the ground or fly up in sulky driving. v
Havin g thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The metal ring A, provided with recesses a a and pin 11, and used in combination with the loops B B and covering O, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of June, 1871.
J. A. BUTT.
