Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES WILOOXEN, OF MORRISONVILLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUG-BUCKLES AND HAME-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,938, dated September 8, 1874; application filed July 18,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES WILCOXEN, 0 Morrisonville, Christian county, Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Tug-Buckle and Hame-Olasp, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to furnish a new and improved mode of securing tugs to the harness and the hames thereof; and it consists in a combined buckle and clasp constructed and arranged substantially as herein described. 4
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side or front View, showing the, buckle and hame-clasp and a portion of the hame. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1, taken on the line am, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 1, taken on the line 3 y, showing the hame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the buckle-frame; B, the catch for holding the tug in the buckle. B is the tug. G O are the bars or keepers for holding the tug in place in the buckle. D is the joint and pin by which the buckle is attached to the hameclasp. E is the clasp which surrounds the hame, and takes the place of the old .staple and hame-hook. This clasp is movable on the hame, up and down, so as to bring the draft at the proper point. F is the catch secured to the. joint-pin at D, which closes intoa recess in the clasp to secure and hold the clasp in the desired place on the hame. G is the hame. H represents a series of holes in the hame, which the pin I of the catch F enters for adjusting the clasp. When the halne is on the collar the catch is held in place by the collar. J is a ring attached to the outside of the clasp by the staple or eye K, for the breast or holdback strap. By this arrangement the tug can be lengthened or shortened at the hame, and the point of draft can be brought to bear in the proper place on the collar or shoulders of the horse. This arrangement of the tug in regard to the collar greatly lessens the liability to chafe the shoulder of the horse, especially in drawing heavy loads. The tug-catch B is hinged to the buckle, as seen at L. M'is the catch-pin, which enters a hole in the tug, as seen in the drawing. There are a number of these holes in the tug, by means of which it can be lengthened or shortened.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A combined tug-buckle and adjustable hame-clasp, each with a catch, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The adjustable hame-clasp E with the catch F, in combination with the hames of a harness, substantially as and for the purposes described.
JAMES WILCOXEN. Witnesses:
ISAAC R. HOLT, BAZEL WILCOXEN.
