.'JZJBCIFICATION forming part o1' Letters Patent No. 323,321. dated July 2B. 1885.
Application tiled March 24, 1885.
/'o all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, Louis GUsTnvnI., Jr., of Delphi, in the county of Carroll and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Tugs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of myimproved hametug complete. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the plate A detached. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the leather casing with the loops detached. Fig. fi is a sectional view of the buckle. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the same, showing a modication. Fig. 6 is a longitudi. nal section ofthe tug complete.
rlhis invention relates to improvements in haine-tugs, and is specially adapted for attachment to heavy draft-harness.
The invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by letter, A designates a flexible metal platehav ing the transverse bearings a c formed on its front end, and its rear end, av', reduced in width and provided with the openings a2 c2. B is a hameclip having its rear edge, b, reduced in width for insertion between the bearings c a and provided with a transverse canal, by means of which and the rod b it is connected with said bearings. The rod b is fixed in thebearings so that the haine-clip turns on the plate A. The iront end of the haine-clip is preferably rounded, and has attached to it by rivet or screw the ring or loop b2 for connection to the harness.
The metal plate A is provided with the leather casing C,stitched by its edges thereon, and having on its outer face the two similar rectangular transverse slots or cut-away portions c c. D l) are similar' loops, which are inserted in the slots c c, and are held therein by sliding the plate A in the casing G so as to pass through said loops.
E is a buckle-frame having its upper and (No model.)
lower arms, e e, curved backward and outward, as shown. The shaft e of the buckle is surrounded by a strong leather collar, F, the meeting ends of the band forming the collar being chamfered and stitched together. so as to form a wedgeshaped projection, f, which enters the rear end ot' the casing C, the reduced end a of the plate passing between the layers of the projectionf.
G G are riveting-pins which pass through the layers of the casing, the layers of the projectionf, and the openings a2 a? in the plate A. The heads g of the pins G rest against the inner layer of the casing, and their outer ends project beyond the outer layer of the same and act as tongues to the buckle, entering proper holes in the traces H, as shown.
With heavy draft-harness the collar F has on its interior a strong met-al re-enforcing collar, I, which surrounds the shaft e of the buckle, the extended ends i t' of which lie together between the layers of the projection f. The pins G G pass through proper openings in the plates t' and take all strain off the surrounding leather. Virith light hame-tugs this feature of construction may be omitted.
The loops D may be either of leather or metal, as desired.
The above described construction, while simple, forms a very strong and compact hametug and one in which the loops D are Very strongly secured in place.
Having thus described my invention I claim- 1. In a haine-tug, the combination, with a leather casin g having the loops attached thereto, of a metal plate secured within the casing, and having the clip for attachment to the haines and the buckle for the traces pivoted, respectively, to its front and rear ends, substantially as specified.
2. In a hametug, the combination of an interior metal plate carrying the haine-clip and buckle, respectively,on its front and rear ends with an exterior leather casing provided on its outer layer with recesses or cutaway portions in which the sides of the .loops are inserted and the loops placed therein, the metal plate passing through the loops and holding them to the casing, substantially as specified.
3. In a, haine-tug, the combination of the casing C and plate A With the llame-clip B, pivoted to the front end of the plate, the buckle-frame E, collar F, provided with the 5 Wedge-shaped projection f, and pins G G, substantially as specified.
4. In a haine-tug, the combination, with the easing C, plate A, buckle-frame E, Collar F, provided With the Wedge-shaped projec- "Io tionf, and pins G G, of the re-enforoing metal collar I, provided With the plates fr', substantially as specified.
5. The combination, in a hametug, with the casing C, provided with recesses c c, loops D, and plate A, of the buckle-frame E, collar F, I5 provided with the projection f, and pins G G, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
