Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,037, dated July 18, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. BAUM, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Curtain Fixtures, of which the following is a specication:
My invention consists of a sliding cord-holder, provided with a spring, in combination with an adjustable slide, situated in a slotted bracket, in such a manner that when the said adjustable slide has been secured in position by means of a wedge, after the slackener of the curtain-cord has been taken up, the spring oi' the cord-holder gives the requisite elasticity to the action of the cord. As the stretching of the cord is compensated for by the adjustment of the slide, the whole elastic 'force ofthe cord-holder operates to produce the elastic action of the cord.
In the accompanying drawing which makes a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved tightener. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, at the line :c cc of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an end view of the slide and parts attached. Fig. 4 is an isometrical view of the sliding cord-holder C. Fig. 5 is a like view of the slide B.
Like letters in all the igures indicate the same parts.
A, Figs. 1 and 2, is an ordinary bracket. B is an adjustable slide, with which is connected the sliding cord-holder C, shown in detail in Fig. 4. The slide B is movable in the vertical slot y of the bracket A to take up the slack of the curtain-cord, (not seen in the drawing,) and is secured in its adjustable position by means of the wedge D, as represented in Fig. 2, which is an ordinary mode of fastening the slide. The cord-holder has a straight part, a, which caused to slide in the vertical opening I) in the ilange d of the slide B by the action of the curtain-cord on the hook c, there being a spring, E, on said part a whose resilient parts bear against the lower part of the ange d and the head f of the part a of the slide, whereby elasticity is given to the action of the cord.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'Ihe sliding cord-holder C, provided with the spiral spring E, in combination with the slide B and wedge D, constructed and arranged to operate in relation to the tightening-cord and the bracket A, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that the above is my invention I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of April, 1871.
