WILLIAM HENRY BEGHTEL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 106,248, dated August 9, 1870.
---Q- IMPROVEMENT IN SHADE-ORD RETAINER The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, WILLIAM HENRY BncHTnL, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a Retainer and Adj nster for Window-shade Cords, ot' which the following is aspecitication..
Nature and Object of the Invention..
My invention consists of the combination ot' a rack, having a pulley or hook for receiving the cordofa window-shade, a plate for receiving and guiding the said rack, and for attachment to the window-frame, and a cylinder, with a spiral rib orthread, adapted to the rack, and arranged to turn in the said plate, the whole being constructed and arranged for the retaining and adjusting of a window-shade cord, substantially as described hereafter.
Descriptz'ow df the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure lis a seetional elevation of my'improved shade-cord retainer,` and Figure 2, a sectional plan.
General Description.
A represents a plate, to be secured by screws or otherwise to a window-frame, and this plate hasa projection, e, which serves as a guide for the rack B, the upper end of the latter being provided with'a pin, d, on which turns the cord-pulley b.
In projections c c,on the plate A, turn the journals ci' a cylinder, C, a rib or thread, t, being arranged spirally on the cylinder, like that ot' an ordinary screwthread, and the teeth of' the rack 'B being inclined to suit the thread. i
The rack B is elevated or lowered by turning the cylinder G in one direction or the other, to tighten 0r loosen the cord, which passes round the pulley b, the cylinder serving to lock to the rack and retain thecolrd aft-er adjustment.
It will be understood that the upperend of the rack may he simply hooked for receiving the cord, insteadv of having a pulley, as shown and as described above.
Claim.
'lhe combination oi the frame A, its projections ce, the sliding rack andthe cylinder G, havinga spiral thread adapted to the `teeth of the rack, all as set forth.
In testimony whereof rI have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM HENRY BEGHTEL.
