Description
ttnitrd @Sttte JAMES S. WHITNEY, OE LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letto/rs Patent No. 102,344, dated April 26, 1870.
IMPROVED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and maknr; part of the saunev To all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, JAMES S. WHITNEY, of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin CurtainLFiXtures, of which the followrecessed pulley B, or a band, is fitted onto one end of the roll C, the rim e projecting outward, or outward and inward, from the central head l), and smoothly finished as usual.
On the center pintle D, or formed in solid connection therewith, is a recessed o1' chanibered bolt-socket, g, and through thisl I insert a bolt, h, which is provivided with a foot or friction-pad, g', curved'on its out-er surface, corresponding with the inside of the pulleyrim or band e.
Within the bolt-socket and around the bolt I arrange a spiral spring, 4, which actuates the bolt in one direction to cause the foot g to press against the inner surface of the rim o, and hold the latter and the roll from turning.
To release the bolt or the foot g', and allow the concealed spring to wind up the curtain, I pull a cord, E, attached to the lower end of' the bolt, and draw the bolt downward. i
The curved foot y in combination with the sliding spring bolt h, and with the rim or band e, all arranged and operating in the manner and for the purpose 'described.
J. S. VHITNEY.
