Description

@teiten faire etrnt @ffice Letters Patent No. 80,793, dated' August 4, 1868.
IMPROVED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
@In rigrmle' rtferrih in in tlgese rtter /rtentmtt making part tf the sante.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY` CONCERN:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM H. WOODS, of the city oi Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Shade Fixtures, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specitieatiomin which- Figue 1 is a front view of my improved window-shade fixture. l
Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are detached views of same.
My'invention lconsists. of a shade-bracket, provided with a barrel, in which are inserted a shaft and coiled spring, the whole`being secured to the end of any ordinary shade-roller, to make itsel pose of raising and lowering the shade.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, struction andoperation.
f-opernting, for the pur- I will now proceed to `describe its con- The barrel B, fig. 4, is made of iron, bra-ss,` or a'ny suitable metal, and in one piece, and provided with feet, for securing it in proper position. On the upper edge of the barrel B is east or formed a shoulderor ledge, C, on which rests and iits tightly 'a thin circular plate, D. In `the centre 0E barrel B and circular plate D are formed circular openings,through which passes shaft T. The parts of shaft 'l working in the'openings are turned down smaller, so as to form fa shoulder for the purpose of holding .it in proper position. The end of shaft T which protrudes through plate I) is made tapering, so as to allow it to be driven into the roller. On the inside ofthe barrel B is aiiixed a coiled spring, S, of suieient elasticity to operate any ordinary roller, and keep the shade at any desired point. One end of spring S is fastened to shaft T, and the other end to the side of rim of B. The roller to which the xture is to be secured is provided with a collar, as shown in fig. in the roller,ia,nd through which is driven the tapering part of shaft T.
In the operation of the fixture, the spring S is coiled up on shaft S, by the lowering of the shade, which turns the roller. This tightening of the spring is not suiiicient to again raise the shade, unless the curtain is eased up or slightly raised.
Having thus described my inventin, its construction and operation, what claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The combination and arrangement of barrel B with coiled spring. S, plate' D, and shaft T, for the purpose herein set forth.
3, the same being centred In witness whereof, Ihave hereunto signed'my name, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
