Description

staten @met PATRICK OTHAYNE AND DAVID w. CANFIELD, or NEW Yon-K, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 85,846, dated January 12, 1869.
IMPRovED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
To all whom it mwy conce/rn:
Be it known that we, PATRICK OTHAYNE and DA- VID W. GANFLELD, of New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Gord-Tightener for Window-Shade Fixtures and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which'will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, ref-` window-shades are Aheld stretched, and consists in the construction of the various parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
A, in the drawing, represents the sheet-metal or other plate of a cord-tightener.
Itis provided with turned edges, in which, as on rails, the slide B can be moved up and down at will.
Through this slide maybe tted a screw, O, onthc outer end of which a knob, a, is formed.
The upper part of the screw is left without a thread, and is larger than the lower threaded partof it, so as to form a shonldenfb, as shown.
D is the small roller or pulley to receive the string. I t is fitted around the upper smooth part of the screw, which is so much longer than the said roller is thick, that the latter can never be clamped by the screw.
When the cord is to be stretched or slackened, the slide is, by means of the knob (l, readily moved down or up; but when the position has been ascertained, the screw is turned, so that its end comes against the back 0f the plate A, while the shoulder b comes against the face of the slide B, as shown in lig. 2. Thereby the lplate A will be slightly sprung, so that the slide B will be firmly held in position.
By this simple apparatus, the adjusting of the cord will be greatly facilitated, withoutintertering with the functions of the roller D.
Having thus described our invention,
We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The block B, provided with side grooves adapted to slide upon the turned edges ofthe'plate A, and reeeivin g the screw C in such a manner that it shall be clamped in any desired position when the vpoint-oi' the screw is brought in contact with the back ofthe plate, as herein shown and described. P. 'OTHAYNE D. lV. CANFIELD. Witnesses:
