Description

@uiten tatea atwt @fitta IMPROVED CURTAIN FIXTURE.
@tige tlgaul referral tu in time sttma nteut mit mating pnt nf its tana;
To ALL WHoM IT MAY ooNoERN:
Be it known that I, JACOB J. HESSLER, ol"Reading, in the county of Berks, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring Shade-Racks; and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description oi' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 'making a part of this speciication, in'whichd Figure 1 is a front view of a spring shade-rack constructed according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Similar letters oi' reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention consists in a sliding knob arranged upon a suitable supporting wire or rod, and in relation witha spiral spring placed around the said rod whereby a uniform tension is exerted upon the cord employed to raise and hold the curtain. The invention further consists in the arrangement of the aforesaid knob and a slotted barrel` in such relation with each other and with a rod and spiral spring containedvwithi'n the said body that the efficiency ofthe rack is very materially increased, and whereby, from the simplicity of its construction, it is made capable oi' being manufactured at a very moderate expense.
To enable othersto understand the construction and operation of my invention, Iwill proceed to describe it with referenceto the drawings.
' A A represents the'barrel ot'v the shade-rack, which is made hollow orwith a large internal recess, a, and has formed inits front side a longitudinal slot, b.V Formed in the interior of the barrel A, at each endof the recess a, is a notch, a', the said notches receiving the extremities of a small rbd, c, placed longitudinally within the recess a. This rod c passes through a vertical hole formed in the innermost end of the sliding-knv`ob B, the said knob passing through the slot b and being furnished with shoulders c which movein contact with the front surface of the barrel A, the rod c constituting a guide to hold the knob B in position as it moves up and down. A spiral spring, d, is placed around the rod c and presses the knob B downward. The barrel A being attached by screws, or other suitable means, to the sideof the window-frame, the endless cord, which operates the roller of the windowshade to raise or lower the same, is passed over the outwardly projecting portion of the knob B, as indicated in red outline in iig. 1, whereupon Athe said knob being pressed downward by the spring d strains or tightens the aforesaid` cord, and thusjretainsvit at such tension as to insure its'proper operation in rotating the roller of the shade in one direction or the other, as required in raising or lowering ,theshade, as the case may be. `From the simplicity of its construction and the ease with which its several parts may be put together, the shade-rack, asl thus constructed, is not only rendered very strong and not liable to get out ot' order, but may, furthermore, be manufactured at an extremely moderate cost.
What I claim as my invention, and des-ire to secure by Letters Patent, ish- The sliding-knob B, working through the slot b of the barrel A, and arranged in relation with the rod cf and spiral spring l contained in the said barrel, substantiallv as and for the purpose specified.,
JACOB J. HESSLER.
