Description
@nimh gieten atnt @frn HERMANN VOI-GT, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
Lata-s Patent No. 67,086, ma Juzg 23, 1867.
IMPROVED CURTAIN I`IXTURE.
TO ALL WHOM I'.l. MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, HERMANN VOIGT, oi' the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full andV exact-description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which-f Figure 1 is a view of my improvements partially in section attached to -the window-frame.
Figures 2 and 1,l elevations of the two sides of the lower pulley.
Figure 4 is a horizontal section oi` the saine in plane of line x x, iig. 2.
Lilie letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the gures.
My invention relates to the construction of thc lower pulley of window-shade or curtain-fixtures, and to a device for regulating the tension oi`-the roller-cord, as herein specifically set forth.
`I a the drawings, A A represent portions of one side ot' the window-casing, to which the shade-roller B, provided with the ordinary fixed pulley C, is suspended in the usual manner. D is the endless-roller cord, which connects the roller-pulley with a small lower pulley, E. VThis pulley is mounted in the peculiar manner hereinafter described in a block or frame, F, foru ed by bending sheet Inet-al, asshown, or by casting. The tension device consists of a frame or case, G, (preferably of cylindrical form,) which is attached to the window-casing by screws, as shown, or in any other suitable manner, which encloses a small axis, 7L, which passes loosely through the case and screws into a knob, I, onthe outside, by which it is turned. .A cord,j, attached to the.
frame of pulley E, descends through a suitable'hole in the upper portion of the case G, and is fastened to the axis h, and wound thereon by turning the knob I, by which the roller-cord D maybe tightened or loosened at pleasure. To prevent the force of the tension of the cords from turning thev axis and loosening the device, I employ within the case G a friction-disk, Z, which is provided with-a slot, on, that allows the introduction of the axis, which is recessed at az, on opposite sides contiguous to the edges ofthe slot, which t therein, and prevent the diskturning as well as from sliding on the axis. The shank 7L is screwed into the knob I, pressing the periphery olthe ydisk against the surface of the case, so that the friction between the two will prevent the axis from turning, except whenmoved by power applied to the knob. If the friction surfaces become worn the defect is remedied by simply giving the sha-nka'partial turn in the knob. The pulley E is secured in the frame F by means of a semi-cylindrical pin, O, shown most clearly in g. 4, which represents a. plan of the upper, non-bearing, or plane surface. At each end on bot-h sides of this pin are formed notches,pp, cut at right angles with the plane surface for the reception of the sides ofl the pulley-frame, as shown in fig. et. There is also a vertical slot, g, made in the end for a purpose presently to be explained. Slotted openings r and r are formed in the two sides of F, there being left in r a' central rib, s, fig. 2, which acts as a stop by the base of the slot q, in which it fits, striking against it as the pin is inserted, (shown in gs. 2 and-4.) The pin is inserted in the lower andenlarged portion of the opening'r in the front side and passed through `pulley and i" on the opposite side till` its passage is arrested by the stop s, when the pin is slid up'in the slots, the edges of the frame F itting in the notches p, and thereby securely holding it in place, as represented.
The advantages of my improvements are obvious. The tension device, while it is simple of construction, is not liable to get out of repair, and enables the roller-cord to be regulated with the greatest ease whenever required. l It also presents a tasty appearance, as the knob, which may be made ornamental, and the cylindrical case are the only parts that are exposed to view. This, contrasted with the distasteful and unreliable applianees in ordinary use, renders its advantages sulliciently manifest.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Regulating the tension of the roller-cord by the winding of a cord attached to the lower pulley or bearingthereof around a'spindle, substantially as sct forth.
I also claim the combination of the knob I, spindle It, and friction-bearing l with the co'rdj and pulley E, arranged and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
I also claiurthc axial pin O of pulley E,-c`onstructed as described, in combination with the frame F, provided with slotted openings 1' 9" and stop s, arranged and operating with the roller-cord and pulley D C, substantially as and forthe purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMANN voter.
