Description

MAX CLAVER. Improvement in Spring Locks for Ventilating Sash.
Patented Sep. 12
UNITED STATES MAX. OLAVEB, OF NEW YORK, N.
PATENT OFFICE.
Y., ASSIGNOR TO A. FREUTAL, OF SAME PLACE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,909, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX. OLAVER, of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Spring-Hooks for Church-Ventilators, of which the following is a specification:
This invention refers to an improved springhook for keeping church-ventilators closed; and it consists in the general construction of the hook and hook-frame, whereby a neat and eflicient ventilatoriastener is obtained.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved venti lator-lock or hook. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view, also of the same, cut through the line V V of Fig. 2.
The arrows indicate the following movements: Arrow No. 3, direction for opening ventilator; arrow No. 2, direction of pull for opening the hook; arrow No. 1, direction of strain of spring for closing the hook or keeping it up.
A is a frame, having the T-shape represented in my drawing, so that the top of the T or flange a may be fastened, by screws or rivets in the holes a, to the sash of a pivoted church-ventilator in a desirable position to correspond and act in concert With a hook, T, fastened to the top of the frame of the ventilator, and engage said hook. B is a hook pivoted by the pins 25 to the two legs of the frame A, in which it plays freely. The hook B has a nose, b, which corresponds to and engages the hook T above referred to, and under the nose b it has a notch, K, leaving a bottom heel, 0, so that the ledge N of the frame A will,
by striking the heel e or nose b, limit the oscillatory motion of the hook B upon the pin 1. The hook B has at its lower part a tail, I), with suitable hole for fastening thereto a rope or cord to operate the hook, or for pulling the ventilator open in the direction of the arrow 2. f is a slotted hole in the hook B, to allow ofthe pin E pass ing through both legs of the frame A in that place, and not interfere with the motion of the hook B, as clearly understood by looking at my drawing. S is a spring coiled around the pins t and E, and which, by being passed under the heel c of the hook B, has a tendency of keeping said hook up in the direction of arrow No. 1.
My improved hook being intended to act for the same purpose as the one described by A. Freut-al, of New York, N. Y., in an application for Letters Patent, of which I have the knowledge, I wish here to state that I do not claim as my invention having applied a spring-lock to church-ventilators; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is--- The improved ventilator spring-hook herein shown and set forth, composed of the combination of the frame A, hook B, spring S, and pins t and E, constructed substantially as specified.
MAX. OLAVER. [L. s]
