Description
titel @IRM 5i-tam E ALBERT LOVIE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE` lOF HIS INTEREST TO CHARLES STEINBACH.
Lette/rs Patent No. 85,016, dated December l5, 18l8.
IIVIPROVED CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
The Schedule referred to in' these Lettera Patent and making. parti of lthe lia-m6- ATo all whom fit may concern- Be it known that I, ALBERTLOVIE, of the city and county oi'Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a newl and useful Improvement in Curtain- Fixture; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of' this specification, in .which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device illustrating my invention.
Figure 2 is a top view of the button, on which the cord runs. p
Figure 3 is a side view-'of the button and screwspmdle.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts iu the several figures. A Y
My invention consists in so constructing the button and its supporting-frame, whereby they canbe easily applied to eachother,- as also to allow the former to be uniformly guided and securely retained in position, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A represents a-frame, which is to be secured to the 1ame-work of the window cr other place where the ixture is necessary.
This frame is constructed of any suitable metal,l cast or stamped with front flanges or ways, a a; two sidepieces,-b b, and top and bottom connecting-pieces, c o, whereby is formed a vertical slot, d, which will extend, or partly extend, from the top to the bottom of the frame.
The side-pieces b b are not absolutely'necessary, but as they increase the strength of the frame, it will be well to employ them.
It will-be perceived that the flanges a are in advance of the top and bottom-pieces, so that the rear of the frame forms a space or chamber to receive a screwspindle, B, whose upper end has connected to it abut- J(on, C, by which the pulley-'cord is held. Its free end vpasses through an opening in the lower cross-piece c.
The pulley-cord is readily tightened or slackened b'y means of a nut, D, which screws on the spindle B.
The upper portion of the slot d has two branch slots, e e, which communicate therewith, and form a T-shaped opening inthel frame. These branch slots are .formed by. cutting away the upper ends ofthe flanges a.
The shank ofthe button C is constructed with shoulders, fj', whose width' should he equal to that of the branch slots ere, previoiusly described.
The part g, between the shoulders f j, must be equal to the space between the anges a. f
In order to apply the button t`o frame A, the lower end of the screw-spindle B is passed through the opening in the cross-piece 0, ntil the shank of the button is in line with the open slots e. Now force the button' back until its shoulder', f, strikes the frame, and then push or pull it down towards the bottom of the frame, and afterwards apply the nut D. It will be found that 'the shoulders f j" embrace both sides of the flange c.
` The button isthcreiey held inpesitiononrthe frame,- and uniformly guided in its motions.
When the cord is passed overthe button, it may be readilytightened to'the necessary tension by the nut D, and slackened by the same means.
To disengage the button from the frame, the nut must be screwed off, and the button raised until its shoulders reach the slots e. Now draw the button for'- ward and the spindle out of the opening in the bottompiece c, of the frame, and the parts are separated from eachother.
- AThe shoulders on the shank may be formed by circular disks, vsecured to the shank, or of angular or othershaped pieces, which will answer the same purpose, but it will be necessary to form the branch slots e to cor-v respond thereto.
I do' riot lay claim to the screw-spindle, nor to the nut, nor to the arrangement of parts as shown by me,-
for it may be-varied;` but having described my inven tion,
What I do claim, isV
rIhe shouldered button c, .cast orl forrned with the-- screw-'spindle B,'in combination with the slotted frame A and nut D, when the parts are constructed and adapted to operate as herein represented and described.
To the above, I have signed my name, this 17th day of October. 1868.
ALBERT LCWIE.A Witnesses: C. F. STEINBACH,
W. A. WrEDERsHEIM.
