Be it known that I, ULYssEs GRANT Mc- QUEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casement-Adjusters, of which th following is a specification.
This invention relates to easement adjusters.
The 4adjuster herein referred to is particularly designed for use in connection with that type of easement which is free for vertical sliding adjustment and also for horizontal swinging movement. It is, therefore, deemed advisable to mention and to properly emphasize that among other objects in view, the principal points of advantage in the structure lie in its adaptability to easements of the kind mentioned and to also invite attention to such features of the structure which satisfactorily contribute with one another to minimize friction between the working parts of the structure at the time of the initial opening of the casement or the closing thereof; and, further, the provision of means which will properly accommodate the vertical movement of the easement and at the same time hold the easement at any desired point in its horizontal adjustment. j
Another object of the invention is the provision of a easement adjuster, which, on a predetermined movement of the easement in a, horizontal direction, the easement may be frictionally held in its adjusted position, but in such manner that will permit of its further manual adjustment in a horizontal direction without the necessity of manually actuating the adjuster itself.
Aside from the eXtreme simplicity and practicability of the structure, it is also desired that notice be given the manner in which the friction between the sliding parts of the adjuster can be regulated to suit ordinary wear and tear of the parts and to also prevent the Casement from being accidentally moved from its intended point of adjustment.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 'l is an elevation of a window structure, showing in dotted lines the position of the adjuster on vertical movement of the casement and the normal position of the casement adjuster in full lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same, showing the easement in a partly-opened position. Fig.

rEhe adjuster, as stated, is particularly designed for use in connection with easements which are free to slide vertically and to also swing horizontally. The easement shown in the accompanying drawings and illustra-ted at C is of the inwardly opening type. However, it is understood that it may be just as effectually used in connection with a easement which is to swing in an outward horizontal direction if such be advisable.
The adjuster consists of two mating members 1 and 2, the former being in the nature of a tube and the latter in the form of a rod, which is free to slide in a longitudinal direction within the tube and also free to rotate therein. The tube is closed at one end by a cap v3 which has an integral stud 4 rising in a vertical direction therefrom and passing through a double frusto-conical passage 5 formed in an attaching plate or bracket 6 which may be screwed or otherwise suitably secured to the frame at the top thereof at a point adjacent to the upper horizontal rail of the easement. The passage 5 has its branches Av and B arranged so that' the small end of one branch has its walls directly merged into the small end of the walls of the other branch. ln this manner it is seen that the stud 4 is permitted to rock or turn in the bracket. At this point, it is stated that this adjustment is preferred, and in fact, necessary, in order that the device will accommodate itself to a corre.
