CURTAIN-FIXTU RE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 485,270, dated November 1, 1892. Application filed February 20, 1892. Serial No. 422,220. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MIOAJAH D. GAINES, 0f the city of Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, haveinvented certain new and usefullmprovements in Ourtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to improvements in curtain-fixtures; and it consists in the novel arrangementand combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my complete invention as applied to a window. 7 Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the saidinvention applied in adifferent manner, with the socket shown in section. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a plate which carries a suitable fixture for one end of the pole, and Fig. 4: represents detail views of the socket detached and the parts composing the same.

The object of my invention is to construct a curtain-pole that can be manipulated, or, in other words, the curtain removed therefrom, without detaching the said pole from the window-frame. By the construction of a curtainpole which I shall hereinafter describe the said pole can be turned in any direction after the same has been released at one end.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a pole having formed at one end thereof a ball 2, the opposite end of said pole presenting the appearance of the ordinary construction.

The parts which compose the socket and which hold one end of the pole to the window are constructed of thin sheet metal stamped or otherwise formed to the shape desired.

3 represents the socket, the interior dimensions of which are of such a size that the ball 2, formed on the pole 1, will snugly fit therein and yet allow said ball to turn in the same. 4 represents an opening formed in the said socket, of sufficient size to allow the pole 1 to be passed through the same and to beturned therein. The said opening 4. extends, preferably, from the annular flange 5, formed on the said socket, a little past the center of the same, which gives all the space necessary in which to operate the said pole.

6 represents a circular plate having holes formed therein, through which holes screws 7 are adapted to be inserted for securing the said plate to the window-frame. Said plate 6 is provided with an aperture 8, and leading from said aperture and formed integrally with the plate is an annular flange 9. The annular flange 9 is of such a size as to admit the flange 5, formed 011 the socket, and when the parts are united, as shown in Fig. 2, the said socket can be turned independently of the plate 6. By this construction the pole 1 can be turned in any desired direction after ithas been secured to the window-frame.

10 represents a right-angular-shaped plate, which is secured to the opposite side of the window-frame by means of screws ll.

12 represents a U-shaped bar, the median portion of which is movably secured to the horizontal extension 13, formed on the plate 10, by means of a stud 14 passing through the said extension. The end of the pole 1 not provided with a ball is adapted to rest or be placed between the arms of the U-shaped bar, this being the normal position of the said pole.

When it is desired to remove the curtain from the pole, the free end of the said pole is lifted out of engagement with the said U- shaped bar.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the fixture possesses many advantages, owing to its simplicity, and, further, can be easily operated when it is desired to put on or remove a curtain.

Having fully described myinvention, what I claim is- A curtain-fixture consisting of a plate 6, adapted to be secured to one side of the window-frame, having a perforation 8 formed therein, a flange, such as 9, formed around said perforation, a socket, such as 3, provided with a flange 5, adapted to be movably secured to said plate, an opening, such as 4, formed in the said socket, through which the pole l is adaptedto be inserted, and a plate secured to the opposite side of said windowframe, having a U-shapedbar movably secured thereto for receiving the freeend of the curtain-pole, substantially as set forth.
