Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. FARBY, OF CALUMET, MICHIGAN.
CURTAIN-POLE T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. FARBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Calumet, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,'and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to supporting means for curtains, commonly designated a curtain pole and it consists of certain novel features, which will be hereinafter clearly set forth and pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention among others is to provide a sufficient and reliable means for adjustably mounting and supporting a curtain upon a window, whereby the curtain may be readily drawn laterally to partly or wholly cover the window, as desired.
In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my tubular curtain pole. Fig. 2 is an end view of the end sections of my curtain pole proper. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing two positions of my means for adjustably connecting the curtain to the curtain pole. Fig. 4 shows the relative position of the devices shown in Fig. 3 and the curtain pole with which they cooperate. Fig. 5 shows a pair of curtains mounted in position upon my curtain pole.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, A designates my curtain pole, which is tubular in form and is made from sheet metal orwood properly bent upon itself, as shown in Fig. 2,
so as to leave the edges thereof separated to provide a continuous slot B. Within the slot thus formed, I dispose the curtain engaging members having the shank or body portion 0, the head D and the button C upon an angular extension of said shank and by providing suitable openings or button holes in the curtain, it is obvious that the buttons C may be readily engaged in said openings and Specification of Letters Patent.

thereby support the curtain at suitable inter vals along its upper end.
E shows the clamping member or end section slipped over the end of my tubular curtain pole and having the integral tongue F, which is designed to fit in the slot B and it is obvious that the end of the curtain pole being thus left open, may be readily secured in position upon the window by any suitable form of bracket. I have also provided upon the end section E a pair of anchoring ears G, so that said section may be readily secured in position by a nail orscrew directed through apertures in said ears, as will be obvious and said end section will thus prevent the curtain pole proper from turning out of an adjusted position and will also securely hold the same at any desired point.
hile I have described the preferred construction and combination of parts necessary to materialize my invention, I desire to comprehend such equivalents and substitute as may be considered to fall fairly in the scope of my invention and I do not, therefore, want to be confined strictly to the showing herein made.
That I claim is:
The herein described tubular curtain supporting device formed of a sheet of suitable material and provided 'with a continuous opening formed by separating the meeting edges of the material forming the tubular body in combination with means upon each end of the curtain pole to prevent casual spreading of the opening and a plurality of curtain engaging members each member having the body portion or shank provided at its lower end with an angular extension, a button on said extension and a disk-likemember upon the upper end of the shank.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY J. FARBY.
