Application filed July 1, 1913. Serial No. 776,873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, MICHAEL FITZGERALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medina, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to window fasteners and it consists in the novel arrangement of its parts as hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a fastener of simple structure which may be easily and quickly applied to a window frame and sash and which may be effectually used for supporting the window sash at any desirable point along the frame.
With the above objects in view, the device includes a clip member adapted to be attached to the frame and having an intermediate portion provided with slots. A rod is secured at one end to the sash and passes through the said slots. A pin is movably mounted in the intermediate portion of the clip member and is provided at its side with a notch which is adapted to receive a side portion of the rod. A traction nut is mounted upon the pin and is adapted to engage the edge of the intermediate portion of the clip member whereby the rod may be drawn into frictional contact with the ends of the slots and thus the sash is held at a desired point along the frame. When it is desired to move the sash within the frame, the nut is loosened upon the pin, whereby the rod is freely slidable through the slots of the clip member.
With these and other objects in view, the device includes the novel features herein specifically pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a win dow with the fastener applied, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastener, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the-fastener, Fig. 4: is a sectional view of the fastener cut on the line l i of Fig. 3.
Throughout the following specification similar characters refer to like parts of the structure.
The fastener comprises a clip member 1 which is provided with an intermediate bowed portion 2. The portion 2 is provided at its opposite sides with slots 3. The mem- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
her 1 is provided with end portions 4 which in turn are provided with screw openings 5 and screws may be passed through said openings whereby the clip member 1 may be secured to the frame of a window. A pin 6 is snugly received in the outer end portion of the bowed part 2 of the clip member and is provided at its side with a notch 7 which registers withthe slots 3 in the bowed portion 2 of the clip 1. A wing nut Sis screw threaded upon one end of the pin 6 and is adapted to bear at its inner face against the edge of the bowed portion 2 of the clip member 1. A rod 9 is provided at one end with an eye 10 which is adapted to be secured to the sash of the window by passing a screw through the said eye. Adjacent the eye 10, the rod 9 is bent slightly as at 11 so that the eye 10 is slightly offset with relation to the body portion of the rod. The rod 9 is provided at that end opposite the end at.
which the eye 10 is located with an enlargement 12. The intermediate portion of the rod 9 passes through the slots 3 and is also received in the notch 7 of the pin 6. When the nut 8 is loose upon the pin 6, the rod 9 is free to slide through the slots 3 and the notch 7 as the sash is raised or lowered in the window frame. However, when the nut 8 is screwed down tight against the edge of the'interm'ediate bowed portion 2 of the clip member 1, the pin 6 is drawn longitudinally in a direction transversely of the bowed portion 2, so that the rod 9 is carried into frictional engagement with the ends of the slots 3. and thus the parts are held in fixed relation and the sash is secured at a desired point in the window frame. By such arrangement it will be seen that simple and effective means is provided for securing a 'means and consequently the movement or securing of one sash at any desired point.
does not depend upon the position of the other sash. Furthermore in moving the sash both hands of an operator may be employed for lifting or lowering the sash inasmuch as it is necessary only to turn the wing nut to release the parts orto secure the same. I
Having described the invention what I moving claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent is:
A fastener comprising a clip member having an intermediate bowed portion provided with slots, a rod passing through the slots, a pin loosely mounted in the bowed portion and having at its side a notch which receives a side portion of the rod, and means for the pin transversely with relation 10 tothe clip member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MICHAEL FITZGERALD.
