SASH-I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1 5, 1919.
Application filed March 17, 1919. Serial No. 283,069.
v To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. ADEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gothenburg, in the county of Dawson and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Sash-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sash fastening device, and has for its object the provision of a device that is simple, inexpensively manufactured, that may be readily installed in place in the window and that will hold the sash against rattling.
Another object is the provision of a device that may be adjusted to sustain the weight of the particular window to which the device is applied.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompai'iying drawing and appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a window frame with the sash holder shown in place;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 of a modified fastener.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 indicates the sash to a window frame 2. An elongated strip of metal 3 is provided with holes near its ends for the reception of screws 5 which secure the strip to the stile (5 of the window frame. Secured to the studding 7 back of the window frame is a plate 8. A screw threaded pin 9 is mounted in a hole in the plate 8 and extends in the direction of its length toward the stri 3, terminating short of said strip, and a am nut 10 holds the pin in place on the plate 8. A spring 11 surrounds the pin and is interposed between the plate 3 at one end and an adjusting screw nut 12, on the threaded portion of the pin at the other.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for In mounting the device in a window frame an opening 13 is formed in the stile 6, large enough to permit entry of the plate 8, the spring 11 is adjusted to suit the weight of the sash and the strip 3 is placed in position. This sash holder has been found in practical use, to embody the ad vantages of being easily and quickly installed in windows, not only at the time of building the structure, but in old buildings as well; of being effective in preventing rattling of the sash under all circumstances and of being adj ust-able to suit the Weight of the sash to which it is applied.
In Fig. 3 is shown a slightly modified form of fastener, in which the plate 8 is dispensed with and a pin 14 is driven into the studdin to retain the spring 11.
Having t ius described my invention what is claimed is:
1. A sash holder comprising an elongated sash engaging strip, a spring retaining pin rigidly secured adjacent the strip and intermediate the ends thereof, a spring mounted for longitudinal movement along the pin and means carried by the pin to produce said longitudinal movement of the spring.
2. A sash holder comprising an elongated sash engaging strip, a spring retaining screw threaded pin rigidly secured adjacent'sthe strip and intermediate the ends thereof, a coil spring mounted on the pin for longitudinal movement along the pin and a nut mounted on the pin to produce longitudinal movement of the spring. 7
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN G. ADEN.
