G. EHRHARDT.
DOOR 0R WINDOW SECURER.
APPLICATION FILED APH. I2, I9II.

narran savanne retratar Nonirica i GEORGE EHRHARDT, 0F SACBAMENT, CLFRNA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO MICHAEL SILVA, OF SACRAE'IENTG, CALIFORNIA.
200GB OR WINDOW SECURER;
Application filed April. 12, 1917.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, GEORGE Enel-inner, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Door or Window Securers; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a door or window securer, and has for an object the provision of a substitute for the well known sliding bolt or lock on doors, and the pivoted sash fasteners on windows, or as is readily undenstood7 may be used in combination with said locks and fasteners.
Another object is to provide a simple and efficient device which may be conveniently carried by tourists or travelers and used on the doors and windows o' the rooms they occupy.
A further object is to provide a device which may readily be used to securely lock a door whether the door and frame are in the same plane or not.
With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door and frame with my lock applied;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of a door and frame in which the faces thereof are not flush and with my lock applied;
Fig. 4L is a perspective view of one part o-f the securer; and
Fig. 5 is a vertical section of two window sashes with my lock applied thereto.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, and with particular reference to Figs. 2 and 3 showing a door j amb or frame 1 and a door 2, and to Fig. 5 in which an upper and lower window sash 3 and -l are shown, the door or window securer is indicated at 5 and consists of a threaded bolt 6 having at one end and formed integrally therewith a fiat head portion 7 which has one of its dat faces disposed in a common Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 161,522.
plane with 1the periphery of the bolt for a purpose to be hereinafter described, and on the extreme end of the head portion 7 is a plurality of right angularly disposed spurs or teeth 8.
A. brace 9 semi-circular in shape is formed from a short bar uniformly curved its entire length and having feet 10 and 11 disposed in the same plane and adapted to engage the adjacent faces of the door and frame or those of two window sashes, said brace being provided midway its length with an enlarged tapered portion having a tapered aperture l2 therethrough whose large end opens into the space between the feet 10 and 11, said aperture being adapted for the reception therethrough of the threaded bolt 6 as will be hereinafter described. A winged nut or similar fastener 13 is threaded on the bolt on top of the brace 9 to force the feet against the door and jamb or the window sashes.
ln applying the securer to a door whether it is flush with the frame as shown in Fig. 2, or below the frame as shown in Fig. 3, the flat head portion 7 is inserted between the door 2 and the j amb or frame 1 and the spurs or teeth 8 are embedded in said jamb or frame as shown. After the door has been closed the brace 9 is mounted on the threaded bolt 6 by passing said bolt through the tapered aperture 12 in said brace and moving it toward the door and frame until the feet 10 and 11 contact with said door and frame, after which the winged nut 13 or other suitable fastening element is threaded ontol the bolt 6 to prevent the brace from being forced ofi' of said bolt.
When it is desired to use this securer on a window it will only be necessary to lower the upper sash 3 and raise the lower sash 4, after which the fiat head portion 7 may be easily secured to the frame of the upper sash by embedding the spurs or teeth 8 therein as shown, and then the sashes move to their original position, this being per-- mitted because of the fact that one face of the flat headed portion 7 is disposed in a common plane with the periphery of the bolt, thereby presenting a smooth face for the lower sash 4: to engage as it is moved to either closed or open position.V It is readily seen that if the periphery of the bolt 6 and one face of the flat headed portion 7 were not in the same plane that upon raising the Window sash 4 a projection which is found in other types of securers would prevent such raising of the Window' sash 4:. After the Window has been closed, the brace 9 is mounted as hereinbefore stated and the threaded Winged nut applied, and when assembled Will appear as shown in Fig. 5.
From the foregoing description of the Construction and method of forming my new and improved door or Window securer, the manner of applying the same to'use, and its operation Will be readily understood, and it will be seen that I have provided a simple and efficient device of this character for carrying out the objects of the invention.
