T 0 all w ham it may concern Be it known that I,'CHARLES citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Laclede and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window and Door Securers, of which the following is a specification. I

This invention relates to improvements in devices for securing windows and doors and has as a general object to provide a device for this purpose which may be conveniently carried by anyone required to travel, so that one possessing one of. these devices may secure .any door or window of a room occupied by him to prevent surreptitious entry.

Another object of the invention is to pro-.

vide a device for the purpose stated which may be folded to compact form when not in use and the construction of which will be I such as to adapt the device to be wedged into place when applied to a door or window in a manner to securely hold the same closed and prevent any play thereof which might otherwise be taken advantage of in an attempt to loosen or disturb the device.

The device embodying the present invention includes two members which are of counterpart construction but which for convenience in describing the same, will be designated one by the numeral 1 and the other by the numeral 2. These members are preferably in the nature of short wooden bars although they may be made of any other material suitable for the purpose and each has a squared inner end 3 and a beveled outer end 4 which may be cut at any desired angle. Each member is further provided at its said outer end with a spur or other suitable gripping element indicated by the numeral 5 and which element may be embedded in the end of the respective member 1 or 2 as the .case may be or otherwise secured in place.

or the members may be swung to extend in allnement w1th each other as shown in the remaining figures ofthe drawings. In order that the members may be held in this latter position, a hook or similar member 7 V is pivoted or swiveled upon one of the members as for example the member 1 and is engageable with a keeper 8 upon the other member. Of course, instead of employing the hook 7 and keeper 8 illustrated in the drawings, any other suitabe means may be made use of for the purpose of holding the members in alined position such for exam-.

ple as a sliding bolt or the like. In any event the holding means will be located at the side of the device opposite the side at which the hinge 6 is located.

In the use of the device, the members 1 and 2 are slightly swung upon the hinge 6 so as to be only approximately inalinement and the spur 5 of one member is then engaged in or against the side of the window frame or in or against the face of the door to be secured, and the spur of-the other member is engaged against or in the upper rail of the lower sash of the window as shown in Fig. 1 or against or in the floor adjacent the door as shown in Fig. 2. Pressure is then exerted against the members opposite the hinge 6 so as to move the members to alined position shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5' of the drawings whereupon the members are locked in this position by engagement of the hook 7 in the keeper .8. In the initial position referred to above, spur carrying ends of the members will be spaced apart a distance less than when the members are in alinement, and in straightening the members the spurs 5 are caused to dig or bite into the parts engaged thereby and pressure will be exerted by the device against the window sash or door to be secured so as to counteract any looseness which the window sash or door might otherwise have and which might be taken advantage of in attempting to dislodge or llO and beveled outer ends, a hinge Connection between the butt ends of the members at 'one side thereof permitting the members t0 extend in alinement 0r fold fiat against each other, the bevels of the outer ends of the members converging towardthe hinged sides of the members and being disposed at a.
