Be it known that I, Ross L. PERKINS, a
citizen of the" United States, residing at Orosi, county of Tulare, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Control Mechanism;l and I do declare the following to: be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application. v
This invention relates to improvements in door opening and closing means, particularly intended to be applied to the double and oppositely swinging doors commonly found on garages.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a device, readily installed on such doors, for so connecting the doors that when an opening or closing Vmovement is imparted to one door, the other one will be opened or closed simultaneously.
Another object is to provide a catch member .automatically engageable with one door when the same is opened tol hold itin such open position, the other door, by reason of the connecting mechanism, being also held open'.
By means of this device, not only is the work of opening or closing the garage doors reduced by half'. but the tendency of the -doors to slam with a win'd'blowing, even when not held by the catch member, is almost. entirely eliminated, as will be shown hereinafter. A K
A third object is to provide a device for the purposel so constructed that a single stock size thereof may be applied to any size doors.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one. which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of vsuch structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully. appear by a perusal of the following specification 'and claims.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings,
the numeral 1 denotes the door-frame of a y garage, to the opposite sides of which are hinged the doors 2 provided on the outside with any suitable form of latch or hasp means as at 3.
A stop-block i is' arranged to limit the opening movement of one door, abutting thereagainst at its lower and outer end. Pivoted on said block is a horizontal catch 5 arranged when the door abuts against said block, to engage a plate or lug 6 projecting from and secured on the door. Spring means 7 acts to hold the catch inengagement with the lug, `the catch being depressed to release the same by means of a foot-pad 8 mounted in connection therewith.
Mounted on the inside of one door adjacent the upper end and intermediate the vertical edges thereof is ay bracket 9, on which is pivoted, with a vertical axis, one end ofA a rigid horizontal bar 10 which has a sliding or telescopic engagement with another bar 11 arranged as an extension thereof.
Said bar 1() has a plurality of longitudinally spaced holes 12 to receive a bolt 13 mounted in the bar 11. In this manner, as will be evident, the operative length of the bars, between their opposite ends, may be varied'at will. p
The outer end of the bar 11 is pivoted onto the outer end of an arm 14 itself pivoted at its opposite end adjacent the hinged edge of the other door on a bracket 15 fixed on said other door, said arm lying at an angle to the door and projecting beyond the hinged edge thereof.
The arm is rigidly held at any desired angle relative to the face of the door by means of a brace 16 pivoted on the bracket 15 at theopposite end thereof from the arm 14 and adjustably connected to the latter. By reason of this adjustable feature, the eX- tent to which one door will initially open relative to the other one may be varied, while at the same time both doors will be extended the same amount when fully opened.
, Should a person therefore wish to enter the garage, without intending to take out the car housed therein, he may do so upon an opening movement of the doors consider ably less than would be the case if both doors opened evenly at the start.
Since the doors are both positively connected by rigid means, it will be evident that the single catch means, applied to one door when fully opened, will hold the other door from closing also.
It will also be noted that by reason of such rigid connections, the force of a wind blowing on the outer face of one door when opened and tending to cause the saine to slam shut, will be neutralized by said force also blowing on the inner face of the other door and tending to hold the same open, and the slamming of the doors is prevented, even if the catch means'is not engaged.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
Vhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A control mechanism for a pair of oppositely hinged doors comprising means eX- tending between and connected to the doors to cause them to open and close simultaneously, and means whereby while both doors will be moved to the same extent when fully opened, the relative speed of opening movement of the doors at the start from a closed position may be varied at will.
2. A control mechanism for a pair of oppositely hinged doors comprising a rigid bar structure pivoted at one end on the inner face of one door, and an arm mounted on the inner face ot' the other door and ex tending horizontally at an angle thereto, the other end of said bar structure being pivoted on the outer end of said arm, and means whereby the angle of said arm relative to the door may be altered at will.
3. A control mechanism for a pair of oppositely hinged doors comprising a rigid bar structure pivoted at one end on the inner face of one door, and an arm mounted in a normally immovable position on thc inner face of the other door and extending horizontally at an angle thereto, the other end of said bar structure being pivotcd on the outer end of said arm, means for enabling the operative length ot' said bar structure to be altered at will and means for enabling the angle of setting of the arm relative to the door to be altered at will.
