UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN OHADWIOK EVANS, OF DENVER, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS C. OHAMBERLIN AND ADDISON J. OHAMBERLIN, OF OGDEN CITY, UTAH TERRITORY.
BLIND, SHUTTER, OR DOOR STOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 110,329,894, dated November 10, 1885.
Application filed June 29, I885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. EVANS,Of Den ver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented an Improved Blind, Shutter, or Door Stop, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates, generally, to blinds, doors, covers, lids, or anything which is hinged and which it is desirable to hold open for any reason or purpose.
The special object of the invention is to furnish the public with a stop which is automatic in its action, simple in its construction, and little liable to get out of order.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention, showing the position which it occupies with respect to a hinged blind before the latter is locked or held by the stop. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the position of the stop after the blind has been stopped.
In the drawings, A represents the base plate, which is provided near each end with a hole, a, by which it may be nailed, bolted. screwclamped, or otherwise fastened. B is a fixed pivot, arranged, preferably, at about the middle of base-plate. Ois the catch, which consists of a horizontal bar, plate, or strip,
Serial No. 170,132. (No model.)
0, and two parallel arms, 0 c, at the opposite ends thereof. The length of the bar 0 and the distance between the arms 0 c are made somewhat greater than the thickness of the door or blind for which it is intended.
The operation is as follows: As the door or blind is swung open, this device is so placed that the pivot B will be on the arc-line of movement of the edge. Thus this edge will strike one of the arms cand carry it around until the other arm clamps the door-edge upon the opposite side, when the blind or door is locked and will remain open until the arms are turned.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, andjdesire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The combination, in a door or shutter fastener, with the base-plate, of a superposed plate pivoted at its middle to said base-plate and provided with aperpendicular arm, 0, at each end, as shown and described.
JOHN OHADWIOK EVANS.
