PETER A. THORIN, OF IRON RIVER, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACOB OHLSON, OF NORWAY, MICHIGAN, AND ONE-FOURTH TO CHARLES A. JOHNSON, OF IRON RIVER,
MICHIGAN.
DOOR-SECURER.
Patented March 2, 1909.
Application filed August 21, 1908. Serial No. $19,621.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER A. Trronrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iron liiver, in the county of Iron and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a door securer, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which will be extremely simple in construction and which may be used as a substitute for the well known bolt or look, or
which may be used in combination with a bolt or look to more securely hold the door.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the nature of the invention is bet ter disclosed, and it will be understood that changes within the scope of the claim may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view through a portion of the door and jamb showing the application of the present invention thereto, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the keeper, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bolt.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing and with particular reference to Fig. 1, there is shown a door jamb or frame 1 of usual construction, and a door 2. The door securer is indicated at 3, and consists of av threaded bolt 4 having a flat headed portion 5 which is disposed in a common plane with respect to the bolt and which carries a plurality of right angularly disposed spurs or teeth 6 of V-shape. A keeper 7 is mounted upon the bolt eforsliding movement thereon, and is provided with a central body portion 8 and lateral wings 9 and 10 respectively. winged nut 11 is engaged with the bolt 4 and is adapted to bear against one face of the body portion 8 of the keeper.
In operation, it will be seen upon reference to Fig. 1, that the headed portion 5 of the bolt is inserted-between the door 2 and the jamb or frame 1 and that the teeth or spurs 6 are embedded in the jamb or frame, as shown. After the door has been closed, as shown, the keeper 7 is moved toward the door and jamb and is frictionally engaged therewith as will be readily understood. The wing 9 of the said keeper extends laterally and bears upon the jamb, and the wing 10 extends in an opposite direction to the wing 9 and is disposed in spaced relation to the door 2 whereby the fingers of the operator may be conveniently engaged with the wing to properly adjust the keeper. It is obvious that by moving the winged nut 11 upon the bolt 4. and engaging the same frictionally against one side of the keeper effectively serves to retain the parts of the device in an operative position. It is obvious that movement of the door 2 in the direction of the arrow A will be prevented by engagement of the door with the shoulder 1 of the jainb 1, and movement of the said door in the direction of the arrow B will be prevented by engagement of the door with the keeper 7, the said keeper being securely anchored by means of the teeth or spurs 6 to the jamb.
Thekeeper 7 is preferably provided upon the inner face of the wing 9 with a strip of rubber or elastic material 9 adapted to prevent injury to highly polished doors and door jambs, as will be understood.
I claim As an article of manufacture, a door securcr comprising a bolt having a threaded p0rtion and a flattened portion forming a head at one end of said bolt, said flattened portion having its outer extremity bent at right angles and notched to form door frame engaging teeth, a keeper loosely mounted upon the bolt provided upon its front face with a laterally extending wing adapted to engage a door frame and provided upon its rear face with a wing extending in an opposite direction to the first named wing and providing means to be engaged by the fingers to hold the keeper in its adjusted position, and a winged nut mounted upon the threaded portion of the bolt adapted to be frictionally engaged with the rear face of said keeper inwardly of said last named wing.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER A. THOR-IN. V itnesses:
