To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, T-IERMANN GLIND RAMP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to door securing devices comprising a hinged prop which is with respect to the door so positioned thereon that it may be swung down to have its free end come in engagement with the floor, whereby the door is prevented from being forced open.

It is the object of the invention to provide a simple and highly efficient device of the kind stated which can be readily applied to the door and placed in operating position. The device is not permanently attached to the door, but is portable and can be readily removed when there is no longer any necessity for its use, and it is therefore especially adapted for travelers and others, to secure the doors of their rooms in hotels where the locks of such doors are outof order or of such construction that they may be easily picked. The device affords complete pro-tection, as the door cannot be forced open from the outside, even though the lock should be picked.

The herein stated object is attained by a novel combination and arrangementof parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in position on the door. Referring specifically to the drawing, the device which is the subject of the present invention comprises a flat strip 10 which is adapted to be attached to the door 11, and has connected to one end, by means of a hinge 12, a prop consisting of two sections 13 and 1st, respectively which lap and are adjustably connected. The section 13 is hinged to the strip 10 and carries a thumbscrew 15 which screws into the section 14:, the latter having a thickened intermediate portion 16 as shown in Fig. 3 so that enough material is had for the threaded aperture into which the thumb-screw is threaded. versely to form interlocking serrations 16 in order that a better hold may be obtained. The section 13 has longitudinal slot 17 through which the thumb-screw 15 passes, and between the head of the screw and the face of the section 13 is interposed a washer 18.

The structure herein described provides an adjustable connection between the prop sections 13 and 14;, and the prop may therefore be lengthened or shortened. The extremity of the section 14: has a sharp and serrated edge 19. That end of the strip 10, which is opposite the end to which the prop is hinged, has a lateral bend 20 from which are struck up barbs 21, and this end of the strip is thickened to obtain greater strength.

In use, the strip 10 is placed vertically against the inner face of the door 11, near the bottom thereof, so that the bend 20 is at the bottom and the hinge is at the top of the strip. The bend comes between the bottom edge of the door and the door sill 22 when the door is shut, the barbs 21 thereupon being forced into the bottom edge of the door. The strip is now mounted on the door and upon positioning the prop so that it extends at an acute angle from the door and its serrated edge 19 engages the floor, the door is securely held closed and cannot be forced open from the outside. To remove the device, it is necessary only to loosen the thumb-screw 15 and shorten up the prop so that it is free of the floor, after which the door can be opened, and the device removed.

The device herein described is strong and durable, it can be readily applied to the door or removed therefrom, and iteffectively serves the purpose for which it is designed.

I claim:

A door check comprising a strip having means for attachment to the door, a sectional prop hinged to the strip, said prop sections overlapping, and the overlapping portions thereof having interlocking serrations, one of the prop sections having a longitudinal slot and the other prop section having a threaded aperture, and a screw passing through the slot into the said aperture.
