ANTIRATTLING DEVICE FRKWINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 10, 1916.
Application filed July 10, 1916. Serial No. 108,417.
This invention relates to improvements' in antirattling devices for windows, one object of the invention being the provision of a device of this character adapted to be connected in such a position as to insure a neat fit to the sash and at the same time maintain the sash in any desired elevation without the use of weights and pulleys.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is quickly and easily installed and which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, and thoroughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings -Figure 1 is a front elevation of the window frame including the sashes, a portion of the frame being broken away to show the present antirattling and holding device in place. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the attachments per se. Fig. L1 is a cross section on line 1 -1 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the window frame, which is provided with three guide strips 6, 7, and 8, the guide ways formed thereby being open at the bottom to permit of the introduction of the two sashes 9 therein. The lower end of the frame is provided with the removable sealing member 10.
Each sash is provided intermediate of its ends and at opposite sides thereof with the recesses 11, and lin each recess is adapted to be secured by means of the screws 12, the casing 13. This casing has mounted therein the frame 14 in which is journaled upon the pin 15 a roller 16, while attached by means of the integral cleat 2O formed from the bottom of said frame intermediate of the ends thereof, is a double terminal flat spring 17, which, when the parts are in the position as shown in Figs. 2 and 4f, engage the bottom of the carrying casing and tend to press the roller outwardly into engagement with one of the guides.
The side plates of the frame at the ends thereof are provided with elongated notches 18 which surround the securing screws and coperate therewith to limit the outward movement of the frame and roller, and yet at the same time prevent the frame and roller from slipping from the casing when either one of the sashes are removed from the window frame. 4
From the foregoing description, it is evident with a device of this character that the present-attachment may be readily placed in position and that bv the resilient support of the roller the same is rictionally held against the adjacent portion of the frame so that the window sash will not stick or adhere butJ will be maintained in any desired adjustment without the use of weights. It is also apparent that with this form of device, the sashes may be readily moved when desired.`
What I claim as new is 1. The combination with a window frame having a guide and a sash having two oppositely disposed recesses in the sides thereof open through one wall of the sash, of an antirattling and resilient supporting device for the sash, one mounted in each recess and resiliently engaging its respective guides of the frame, each of said devices including a rectangular casing open at one end, fastening devices piercing the casing and attaching the same t0 the sash, a frame slidably mounted in said casing and provided with limiting notches for engaging the fastening devices, a spring interposed between the casing and the adjacent side of the frame for projecting the frame outwardly, and a roller carried by the frame and connected exteriorly of the casing.
2. The combination with a window frame having a guide and a sash having two oppositely disposed recesses in the sides thereof open through one wall of the sash, of an antirattling and resilient supporting device for the sash, one mounted in each recess and resiliently engaging its respective guides of the frame, each of said devices including a rectangular casing open at one end, fastening devices piercing the casing and attachand having the terminals thereof in engageing the same to the Sash, a frame slidably ment with the bottom of the casing, and a mounted in said `Casing and provided With roller carried bythe frame and normally 10 limitingjnotches for engaging the fastening projected eXteriorly of the casing.
5 devices, two integral cleats formed from the n testimony whereof I aifx my signa-Vv body of the frame, a double terminal fiat ture. y spring attached to the frame by the cleats JOHN JACOB TANNER.
