Description

June 22 1926.
H. A. MEYER WINDOW ATTACHMENT Filed August 8, 1924 ATTORNEY Patented June 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRY A. MEYER, 0F DORGHESTER, ILLINOIS.
WINDOW ATTACHMENT.
Application filed August 8, 1924. Serial No. 730,965.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view, but showing a slight modification.
In these views, 1 indicates the stationary member of the device which is adapted to be fastened by screws or the like to the 'top rail of the lower sash of a window. This member is provided with tapering side flanges 3 which have their wide ends at the outer end ofthe member and the pointed ends adjacent the inner end of the member. A channel-shaped member 4 is pivoted be tween the flanges 3 by the pin 5, said member l being in reversed position. The curved end 9 of the member 4 forms a resilient part and acts as a grip on the sash.
It will be seen that when the member 1 is fastened to the top rail of the bottom sash adjacent one edge of the sash the member 4 will rest against the side rail of the upper sash and will be in tilted position so that when the lower sash is moved upwardly or the upper sash downwardly the member 4 will. be pressed downwardly and thus jam the two sashes in the Window frame and prevent movement of either sash.
By grasping the sides of the part 4: a person can raise the member 4E out of engagement with the upper sash so that the sashes can be moved as desired.
As soon as the member is released it will drop from and thus prevent further movement of the sashes.
This device can be readily manipulated from the inside of a room but it will effectually serve to prevent the sashes from being opened from outside the room. The device is very simple so that it can be manufactured to sell at low cost and it can be put in place by a person unskilled in the use of tools.
I may also provide a spring 10 on the pivot pin 5 as shown in F igure2, which serves to cause the locking member to more firmly engage the sash.
This arrangement can be used on windows that slide sidewise instead of up and down.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to'be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A window fastener, comprising a base part adapted to be placed on the bottom sash, a channel shaped member pivoted adjacent one end to the base part and an end piece at the other end of the member attached to the web thereof and offset from the flanges of said member to form a spring part to grip the top sash of the window.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
