Be it known that I, LOUIS BoRGENroHT, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dresses, of which the following is a specication. v

My'invention relates to an article of apparel and particularly to a dress of the class in which a collar is adapted to be turned down in the usual manner to show lapels or to be buttoned up to the neck to form a closed collar and neck.

It is a primary object of my invention to provide a dress, which in one position, has

an open front V neck and in another position has an entirely closed neck.

It is a further object of my invention to provide a changeable cu sleeve and in general it is desirable to provide a neat, decorative and simple garment of the above indicated character.

Numerous other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description of one of the preferred forms of an embodiment of my invention.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment embodying my invention shown with the neck closed and Fig. 2 is a similar view with the neck opened and the cu' folded back.

Referring to the embodiment of the invention herein disclosed there is shown a body portion 1 having a slit 2 extending downwardly from the front of the neck to form lapel portions 3 and 4l. Forming a continuation of the body portion at the shoulders is the collar 5 herein shown as a band or military collar. Underlapping the adjacent edges of the lapels 3 and 4 and underlapping the meeting edges of the collar 5 is a long narrow strip 6 which may be bodily removed from the garment but preferably has one end fastened to the body portion 1 adjacent the lower end of the slit 2 and adapted to be folded down out of sight when the garment is opened to form the V neck hereinafter described and may be held in folded position out of sight by means of the fastener 7 Suitable fastening meansy 8 such as the button and buttonhole illustrated connect opposite edges of the strip 6 with-the acent edges of the lapel portions and collar. By means of this construction the edges of the lapel portions are freed from bulky material and are arranged so that they may be brought relatively close together and the strip 6 which may be ofv minimum width affords a means for completely closing the slit 2 as shown in Fig. 2.

The collar 5 may be bent back upon itself, intermediate its width, and the attached lapel portions may be folded outwardly and back upon the body of the garment to form a low V-shaped open neck and turned down collar effect.

The end of the sleeve 9 of the garment has a slit 10 extending longitudinally thereof and the end portion of the sleeve is adapted to be bent back upon itself across the line of the slit to form a turned back cuE 11. The sides of the cu are adapted to be connected across the slit l0 by means of the strap 12 opposite ends of which are adapted to engage the adjacent sides of the cuff by means of fastening devices such as the button and buttonhole connection 13 and, if desired, the strap 11 may be removably fastened to the sleeve by means of the fastening means 14.

As shown in Fig. 2 the reversed side of the cuff 11 has affixed thereto fastening means 14 and adapted to be engaged by the strap 12 extending across the slit 10 to maintain the slit ends of the sleeve fastened together when the sleeve is unfolded to obtain its maximum length.

By the construction above outlined it is apparent that a simple form of convertible garment is disclosed which is simple in construction and which lends itself readily to an artistic design. By unfastening a few of the buttons, a V neck opening of any desired extent may be obtained and at the same time a completeness of design is preserved.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:-
