COMBIN ED SUSPENDEB-TAB AND BELT-LOOP FOR TROUSERS.
S pecificationof Letters Patent. Patented uly 2S, 1914;. Application filed June so, 1913.- Serial No. 776,584. 4
Be it known that. I, ALBERT LEIGHTON,. a
of Erie, in the county of-Erie-and State of Pennsylvania, have made a new and useful Combined Suspender-Tab of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to tabs, an'd more particularly'to a Suspender tab forming a permanent part of trousers, my objectbeing to provide aflexible tab,
the lower portion of which is secured to the inside of the waistband, and the upper por-, 1)
tion of which is adapted to be turned down of the waistband, this lattab and thetrousers being provided with cooperating fastening means whereby to secure the tab'in turned down position and in such manner as to form a belt loop.
The means above are shown ing, in whicha Figure 1 is a perspective elevation of the by which I accomplish the in the accompanying drawupper portion of trousers provided with my is a vertical-sectional .view'taken substanimprovements.
Fig. 2is an elevation of one por ion of the trouse'rs waistband showing one of the suspendefigtabs secured in turned down position to forma belt loop. Fig. 3
tially on line 3-3 of Fig-s2. Fig.4 is a perspective elevation of the upper portion of trousers, illustrating a slightly modified form of my invention. Fig. 5 is an elevation of a portion of the trousers' waist band showing the modified form of myinvention in turn-down position, as a beltloop, and,
Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view taken sub-' 6-6 of Fig. 5.
to Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, I preferably provide suspender tabs indicated A the lower ends of which tabs are connected or secured to the inner surface of the waistband of trousers indicated at B, by suitable means,- such as for instance by buttons or preferably by rivetstantially on line Referring now ing or stitching, as indicated at I) in Fig. 1,
I the upper ends of these tabs carrying metallic loops a adapted to receive the usual flexi- -ble fasteners c of suspender straps C, or
other device. Each of the tabs A, A and A is also provided adjacent its upper end with an outwardly opening socket fastener a, preferably located'in the metallic loop as shown, and is'formed of flexible material suspender my-invention is waistband as particularly indicated in Fig.
2, the socket fastener acooperating with a .stu'd fastener 6 carried by the trousers. Thus with the fasteners'a and b engaged as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the main bodyportion of each of the suspender tabs'extending over the outer surface of the trouserswaistband, forms, with the'waistband of the trousers, a loop to receive the usual belt DI From this it will be seen that 'urpose for which it isintended, and is highly useful, lmportant, and convenient where the user, wearing suspenders, desires particularly effective for the .whereby to permit the same to be turned .down over the outer face of the trousers to remove his coat, at which time it is only necessary to detach the suspenders C by means of their flexible connections 0, adjust the belt D in position and then turn down the tabs A, A, .A and secure thesame over the belt as shown and described.
In the modified form of my invention as illustrated in Figs. 4'to 6 inclusive, the suspender straps D are provided at their ends with slides or metallic loops d, and the flexi-- ,ble fasteners e are carried by the upper ends ofthe upwardly projecting trouser tabs E, the lO\VI"6IldS of which are permanently secured to the trousers in the same manner as previously described in connection with the tabs A, A and A In this manner the necessity for providingtrouser tabs E with socket fasteners is done away with, inasmuch as the socket fasteners e of the flexiblemembers 6 may be utilized to cooperate with the studs F secured upon the outer'surface of the trousers. This latter form of my invention will be cheaper, as may be readily seen.
4 My invention enables the manufacturer of trousersto dispense with the sewing on of buttons and saves'time consumed and material used to make the ordinary belt loops, and in to the manufacturer as well as economy and convenience to the user.
I claim:
1. The combination of trousers provided with fastening means at spaced points below its waist line, and flexible Suspender tabs sc-.' cured at their lower ends to the inside of the these instances will be a great savlng trousers, for the purpose described.
2. The combination with trousers, of suspender tabs secured to and extending upwardly from the waistband of the trousers and adapted to be turned down thereon, and means for fastening the tabs to suspenders when upstanding and to the trousers when turned down where y to form belt loops at spaced points around the waistband, for the purpose described. 7
3. The combination with trousers, of tabs suitably connected to the inside of the waistband and extending upwardly therefrom, attaching loops earned by the upper ends of the tabs for connection with suspenders when in upstanding position, and relatively. engageable'means carried by the tabs and the outer surface of the trousers whereby to secure the tabs in turned down position, for the purpose described.
4. The combination of trousers provided with fastening studs at spaced points below its waist-line, flexible suspender tabss'e cured p at their lower ends to the inside of the waistband at similarly spaced points of the tron sers, and flexible connecting members at the upper ends of the'tabs for engagement with suspenders, said flexible connecting members having lower fastening studs and upper f astening sockets, the latter of which are also ALBERT LEIGHTON.
