Description
L. DAUM. BLANK FOR APRONS.
' APP, IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 8 1 9 l 1. 1 ,O62,697. Patented May 27, 1913.
UNITED STATES, IEILIENT OFFICE.
LOUIS DAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO RICHARD PICK MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
BLANK FOR AIRONS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS DAUM, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blanks for Aprons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide an apron consisting of a single piece of material and having two overlapping thigh flaps.
It relates particularly to leather aprons and resides, essent ally, in providing a blank which, when finally out along a given line, constitutes the completed apron.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and particularly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention: Figure 1, is a view in elevation of the blank from which the apron is adapted to be made. Fig. 2, is a similar view of the blank showing the lower middle portion thereof drawn up and stretched preparatory to cutting the same for providing two overlapping flaps to fit over the thighs of the wearer. Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view in front elevation of the completed apron formed from a blank embodying my invention.
The particular object of the invention is to provide a blank for the manufacture of leather aprons composed of a single piece of leather and the apron resulting from which is provided with two flaps, one of which is adapted to fit over each thigh of the wearer and each of said flaps overlapping the other so as to prevent injury to the clothing or person of the wearer by reason of projection between the thighs of heavy articles or flying pieces of metal, stones or the like.
A further object of the invent-ion is to provide a blank for leather aprons which when completed, will form an apron which is perfectly flat and devoid of any wrinkles due to drawing the material from one place to provide fullness in another.
The objects of the invention are attained by means of the blank A of a single piece Specification of Letters Patent.

of leather or other suitable material which is wider at its lower than at its upper end portion, said blank being cut to any desired shape according to the use to which it is intended to be put. In the instance illustrated, the apron is provided with an extension B which is adapted to cover the abdomen of the wearer to protect the same. In the middle of the lower edge of the blank a recess C is provided which indicates the position of the dividing line between the flaps D of the apron after the blank has been cut to form the same. Preparatory to cutting the blank to form the said flaps D, the same is drawn up as indicated at E from the recess C in the lower edge thereof to that point in the apron which falls substantially opposite the crotch of the wearer, the leather being drawn up at this portion midway between the side edges of the blank in any well known manner to form a concavo-convex rib E, thereby drawing the side edges of the blank into position parallel or substantially parallel with each other. After thus drawing up the leather to form said rib E as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the same is out along the ridge of said rib E from the lower to the upper end of the same where said raised portion meets the flat portion of the blank. The said raised portion is then flattened out and as the greater area of material therein contained covers more space or more area than was previously covered by the material stretched to form said raised portion, the opposite sides of said raised portions will overlap each other as shown in Fig. 4, said overlapping portions being held against separation by means of a rivet or similar fastening device Gr passing through the upper end portions of said overlapping portions adjacent their meeting point.
The belt straps H may be secured to the side edge portions of the upper end portion of the apron by means of rivets or other suitable fastening devices I as shown. The portion B of the apron is usually supported by means of shoulder straps which are omitted from illustration as forming no part of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
As a new article of manufacture, an apron blank comprising a single piece of flexible material having a central longitudinally disposed concavo convex rib ex tending from a point adjacent the middle 7 In testimony whereof I have signed my to the lower end of said blank, said rib name in presence of two subscribing Witadapted to be severed longitudinally of its nesses.
