GARMENT Filed Aug. 25, 1959 Patented May 13, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GARMENT Joseph Henry Schweich, Clayton, Mo. Applicata@ August '25, 1939, serial No. 291,863
(c1. a-vs) 1 Claim.
The present invention relates generally to garments, and more particularly to a novel undergarment commonly called a slip.
An object of the present invention is to provide a novel ladies slip. I
Another object is to provide a novel ladies slip which is of a. construction to allow for the difference in size of the bust and waist.
Another object is to provide a novel ladies slip of a construction to snugly fit the waist and bust, yet permitting the same to be drawn on and oi over the head.
Another object is to provide a novel ladies slip which includes a single front panel of material cut on the Ibias, and another panel comprising the remainder of .the skirt cut on the straight.
Another object is to provide a novel ladies garment which isr simple in construction, yet which is adapted to fulfill all of the objects and advantages sought therefor.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, taken in con junction with the accompanyingv drawing, in which:
,f urements. The present slip is of a construction Fig. 1 is a front view yof a ladies slip con- Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
' Fig. 1 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and,
Fig. 5 is a section on lthe line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing more particularly by reference numerals, I0 indicates generally a ladies slip constructed in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The slip I'0 includes a iront central panel II of substantially the conguration shown in Fig. 1, a panel I2 which comprises the rear and sides of the skirt, breast panels I3, rear upper panels I6, and straps i 5.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the slip shown in Fig. l
bias.
to take care of this requirement. Since the central front panel Il is cut on the bias, it will expand as the waist portion thereof is passed over the-breastsv but will `contract to the'predetermined measurement as it assumes its normal position. The panels I3 and I4 likewise assume a relatively snug position due to being cut on the The main portion of the skirt of the slip I0, namely, the panel I2, is cut on the straight and, therefore, Will not crau/'1" when the wearer sits down. Neither will it be distorted in shape through the wearer maintaining a sitting position over a considerable period of time, which is true in the case of a. 4.so-called bias slip. The
panel I I does not crawl, inasmuch as it is dis-k rectly influenced in respect to longitudinal movement by the panel I2.
It is apparent, therefore, that there has been provided a slip which is adapted to fulll all of the objects and advantages sought therefor.
It is to be understood that the foregoing description and accompanying drawing have been given by way of illustration and example, and not for purposes of limitation, the invention being limited only by the claim which lfollows.
The front central panel II is connected to the panel I2 by stitching I1 and to the breast panel I3 by stitching I8. The stitching I8 likewise secures the breast panels I3 and the rear upper panels I4 to the panel I2. the rear upper panels I4. Each of the breast panels I3 has a forming dart 20. T'he breast panelsy I3 and the rear upper panels I4 are of double thickness (Figs. 3 and 5) The front central panel I I, the breast panels I3, and the rear upper panels I4 are ofrmaterial cut on the bias, whereas theV panel I2 is of material cuton'the straight, or in the direction of the weave. A slip is thereby provided which does not have the undesirablecharacter- Stitching I9 secures A What is claimed is:
A slip comprising breast panels of material cut on the bias,v upper rear panels of material cut on the bias, thellower edge of each rear panel being inclined downwardly towards the center, .a panel forming the rear and sides of the skirt of materialcut on the straight, and a front skirt panel of material cut on lthe bias, said front skirt panel including a portion of V- shape extending upwardly between the breast panels to `the top line thereof, the upper edge of the rear portion of the straight-cut panel being cut from each side inwardly to form an obtuse angle with the point thereof at the center and extending downwardly into the said panel, said bias-cut front skirt panel being adapted to stretch and said upper edge of the
