(Cl. 123-647) This invention relates to girdles, wherein the sides of the waistband portion of the girdle include relatively movable panels of all-way stretch material to provide yieldable support of the garment upon the sides of the wearer in a manner to maintain a more definite positioning of the girdle upon the body of the wearer and, at the saime time, to compensate for body movements in the use of the garment.

More particularly, the invention deals with a structure of the character described, wherein the panels constitute side wall portions of pockets disposed at the sides of the garment, preferably adjacent the hips of the wearer.

The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:

FIG. 1 is a front view of a garment made according to my invention, diagrammaticaly illustrating the front and rear portions of the garment arranged one upon the other in a flat relationship.

FIG. 2 is a view, similar to FIG. 1, showing the opposed sides of the garment arranged in fiat relationship to each other and illustrating only the upper portion of the garment, with part of the construction broken away.

FIG. 3 is a partial section on the line 33 of FIG. 2; and

FIG. 4 is a partial section on the line 4-4 of FIG. 2.

My improved garment may be made of any desired materials or combinations of materials. However, in illustrating one adaptation and use of the invention, I have illustrated in the accompanying drawing a garment preferably formed from latex in accordance with known procedures and represents the body portion of the garment, the lower edges of the front and back portions thereof having garter supporting elements 11, preferably formed integral with the body portion 10. At 12 is seen the waistband portion of the garment, the waistband and adjacent portion of the garment having, on each side thereof, two relatively movable overlapping flaps or

panels

13 and 14, respectively, the flap 14 extending onto the front portion 15 of the garment and extending integrally with the rear portion 16 thereof; whereas, the flap 13 extends integrally with the front portion 15 and is arranged within the flap 14, as clearly apparent from a consideration of FIG. 2 of the drawing.

13, 14 have rounded upper edges, as at 13', 14, forming substantially V-shaped recesses 17 at the sides of the garment, the rounded edges 13', 14 extending freely with and are continuous with upper edges of the front and back of the garment and extend to

points

18 and 19 on the rear and front portions, respectively, of the garment. The flaps are united integrally with each other and with the body portion of the garment along the curved lines or

junctures

20 and 21, the latter intersecting at 22 and these junctures form within and between the

flaps

13, 14 pockets 23 opening through the upper waistband edge portion of the garment, as will be apparent from a consideration of FIG. 4 of the drawing. The showings in 3 and 4 are exaggerated with regard to thickness and spacing of the

flaps

13 and 14 to illustrate the pocket opening 23 and, in both of these figures, no background showing is illustrated.

In FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, reference is made to one side only of the garment, it being understood that the opposed side of the garment is of similar construction, thus the brief description of the one side will apply to both and like references will indicate like parts. It will also be apparent that the

3 and 4 are taken through the one side wall only of the garment.

With a structure of the type and kind defined, it will appear that any expansive strains-applied to the waistband and upper portion of the garment are taken up through the relatively

movable flaps

13 and 14 and these strains extend to the hip and thigh engaging portions of the garment; thus, when the garment is subjected to these strains, the garment will maintain its position upon the body of the wearer.

Considering FIGS. 3 and 4 of the drawing, it will be apparent that, with latex types of garments, a flock facing 24- of any type and kind of material is applied to the inner surface of the garment, including the flap 13 and that part of the flap 14 which extends beyond the upper edge 13' of the flap 13. This flocking provides a desirable facing next to the body of the wearer in the use of the garment and, at the same time, facilitates free arrangement of the garment upon the body of the wearer and removal of the garment therefrom.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A one-piece girdle of the character described comprising a circumferentially continuous body encircling portion having an upper waistband, upper side edge portions of the body portion comprising a pair of overlapped flaps extending integrally with front and rear sides of the body portion, said body portion and flaps being of all-way stretch material, said flaps in their entirety being relatively movable, said flaps at each side of the girdle having lower portions integral with each other and with front and rear sides of the girdle, and said pairs of flaps forming pockets opening through the upper edge portion of the girdle.

2. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein said flaps have upper curved edges, and said upper edges crossing each other centrally of side portions of the girdle.

3. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein the entire girdle is formed from latex, the lower portion of the girdle including depending garter supporting elements, and a flock on the inner surface of the girdle including one flap in each pair and a portion of the other flap in each pair.
