Description

April 1962 s. GRISHMAN 3,029,822
GIRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE HIP AND THIGH PANELS Filed NOV. 25, 1959 IN VEN TOR.
, 5/MON Gmsmwmv HTTOR/l/EY United States Patent 3,029,822 GIRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE HIP AND THIGH PANELS Simon Grishman, Yonkers, N.Y., assignor to William Gluckin 8: Company, Inc., New York, N .Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 25, 1959, Ser. No. 855,456 2 Claims. (Cl. 128-621) This invention relates tov girdles formed at least in part of all-way stretch material. More particularly, the mvention deals with a garment of the kind defined, wherein relatively movable all-way stretch panels are provided primarily at the hip and thigh portions of the girdle and can extend to the waistband portion of the girdle, preferably at the front of the girdle.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic front view of a girdle made according to my invention, with the front and rear portions of the girdle arranged in fiat relationship one upon the other, with part of the construction broken away.
FIG. 2 is a partial section on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1 through the front portion only of the garment,
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2, but taken on the line 33 of FIG. 1 and FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2 taken on the line 4-4 of FIG. 1.
My improved garment may be made of any type and kind of material and combinations of materials, wherein overlapping panel portions of the garment are at least composed of all-way stretch material. In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, I have diagrammatically illustrated a garment formed from latex and the body portion 10 of the garment includes, on the rear portion 11 thereof, depending garter attaching elements 12; whereas, the front portion of the garment includes overlapping inner and outer relatively movable panels 13 and 14, depending portions of which include integral garter attaching elements, as at 13' and 14, respectively. The overlapped panels 13 and 14 form a chamber or passage 15 therebetween and, in the diagrammatic illustration of FIG. 2 of the drawing, the showing is exaggerated in order to clearly illustrate 15. 7
Opposed side edges of the panels from the waistband portion 16 to the positions 17 and 18, as noted in FIG. 1 of the drawing, are integrally united with each other and with the material of the body portion '10, as illustrated at 19 and 20 in FIG. 2 of the drawing, or by the lines 19 and 20 shown in FIG. 1. In other words, the panel 13 extends integrally from the body portion of the garment at 20 or along the line 20; whereas, the panel 14 extends integrally with the body portion of the garment at 19 or along the line 19. The overlapped panels provide a reinforcement at the front of the garment and, at the same time, provide free relative movement of the front side edge portions 21 and 22 with which the elements 13 and 14', respectively, constitute integral parts. This construction facilitates free body and leg movement, as will be apparent, and the tensional strain of the relatively moving panels is taken up through the body portion of the garment, actually, in line with or above the hips.
iatented Apr. 17, 1962 ICC For purposes of description, the integral juncture at 19-20 may be said to define sides of the panels 13-14. These sides terminate above the lower portion of the girdle, as indicated at 17 and 18. Further, the lower edge of the panel 13 extends from 17 to the lower portion of the girdle and the lower edge of the panel 14 extends from 18 to the lower portion of the girdle.
It will be noted, from a consideration of FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawing, that the inner surface of the body portion of the girdle, including the panel 13 and lower portion of the panel 14 extending beyond the panel 13, includes a facing of flock material of any type and kind, as diagrammatically illustrated at 23. This material provides free attachment and detachment of the garment with the body of the wearer and, at the same time, insulates the latex material from the body of the wearer. It will be understood, in this connection, that with varied methods of constructing the garment and use of other than latex materials, the flock is dispensed with. While the chamber 15 between the panels 13 and 14 can be sealed at the waistband 16 of the garment, it will be noted, from a consideration of FIG. 4 of the drawing, that the chamber 15 opens through the waistband portion 16 of the garment, as indicated at 15'. In this figure, it will also appear that the waistband also preferably has an enlarged circumferential reinforcing edge 24 which is formed by simply building-up the latex material in the formation of the garment along the waistband thereof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A girdle of the character described comprising a one-piece body portion, including a pair of overlapped panels at the front of the girdle and of all-way stretch material, each panel extending integrally with an adjacent front side of the body portion, said panels having sides united with each other and said body portion throughout the full length of said panel sides, said panels between said sides being unattached and in their entirety being relatively movable, the sides of the panels terminating adjacent and above the lower portion of the body portion, the panels having upper and lower edges, the lower edge of one panel extending from one of said sides to the lower portion of the body portion, the lower edge of the other panel extending from the other side to the lower portion of the body portion, and said upper edges of the panels being alined and terminating at a waistband portion of the girdle.
2. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein the entire girdle is formed of latex, with the lower portion of said panels extending integrally with respect to front sides of the girdle, said overlapped panels forming a chamber therebetween, and said chamber opening through the upper waistband of the girdle.
