Description

Feb. 16, 1965 s. GRISHMAN GIRDLE WITH ATTACHED PANTY Filed Oct. 19, 1962 INVENTOR. 5/M0/v GR/SHMHN BY FITTORNEY United States Patent 3,169,539 GficDLE WITH ATTAQHEB PANTY Simon Grislnnan, Yonkers, N.Y., assignor to William Glucldn 8; Cornpmy, ind, New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Oct. 19, 1952, Ser. No. 231,754 1 (Ilaina. (til. lid-519) This invention relates to girdles, wherein a panty is arranged entirely within the environment of the girdle and attached at its upper end to the waistband portion of the girdle and otherwise freely disposed within the idle. More particularly, the invention deals with a girdle'strucare of the character defined, wherein the body portion of the girdle includes front and rear panels for support of the body in the use of the girdle.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
PEG. 1 is a front view of a girdle made according to my invention, illustrating the front and rear portions disposed directly one upon the other, with parts of the construction broken away and in section.
Fi 2 is an enlarged section on the line 22 of FIG. 1.
PEG. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 33 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2 showing only part of the construction and showing a modification.
In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, I have diagrammatically shown at 1% a girdle body portion and at 11 a panty disposed entirely within the body portion 19.
The body portion 19 includes a waistband portion 12 in the form of an elastic band, having ends thereof crossed at the front of the girdle in diamond-shaped overlapped relatively movable portions, generally identified by the reference character 13. The body portion It) includes a front panel 14 and a rear panel 15, to side edges of which are attached side portions 16 and 17, the latter being preferably composed of all-way stretch material. The two panels 14 and 15 and the sides 16 and 17 are attached to the waistband 12 and to the lower edges of the panels and sides is attached on the inner surface thereof an elastic band 18, as diagrammatically seen in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Except for the showings in FIG. 2, no illustrations have been made of the stitchings for attachment of the bands and sides to each other and to the waistband and the lower elastic band 18. However, in FIG. 1, the showing of the line 19 inwardly of the edge 20 is to diagrammatically illustrate a decorative type of stitching line conforming to the contour of the edge 213 and this stitching is diagrammatically shown in FIG. 3 of the drawing, in which figure, the other stitching 21 is shown attaching the free edge of 16 to the panel 14.
At 22 I have diagrammatically shown depending garter supporting straps attached to the band 18 and the lower ends of the sides 16 and 17.
The panel 14 has a contracted upper end 23 and a contracted lower end 24, the panel adjacent the upper end 23 having its widest portion, as illustrated by the corners 25, thus forming, of the panel 14, a shield-like structure for support of the front of the body of the wearer. The panel 14 can be composed of any suitable material and, in
illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, this panel, as well as the panel 15, can be extensible only in the vertical direction.
The rear panel 15 is of greater width overall than the front panel 14 and has a contracted upper end 26 and a slightly contracted lower end 27.
The panty if has a waistband portion 28 attached to upper edges of 1d, 15, 16 and 17, as well as the lower edge of the waistband 12', by any suitable stitchings, as diagrammatically seen at 29 inFlG. 2 of the drawing, in which figure, the overlapped portions 13 of the waistband 12. are clearly shown, as well as the upper end 23 of the front panel 14. The lower portion of the panty has leg openings, as seen at 34 preferably reinforced by a hem 31, which extends onto the crotch portion 32 of the panty. The rear of this crotch portion is preferably reinforced by a transverse stitching, shown, in part, at 33 in HS. 1 of the drawing. The panty 11 can be composed of any suitable material but, in illustrating one a aptation and use, it is preferred that the panty be composed of an all-way stretch material, such as Helenca. it whl be understood that the panty is freely disposed within the girdle, except for its attachment to the waistband p rtion and the panty will flex with, or independtly of, flexure of the body portion of the girdle, as will be readily apparent.
In the modified showing of FIG. 4 of the drawing, I have shown, in part, means for detachable mounting of the panty with the irdle to facilitate independent laundering of he panty. With this construction, the upper edge portion 28 of the girdle has fixed thereto, at suitable circumferentially spaced intervals, the male members 34 of conventional snap fasteners and the upper edges of the panels 14, 15, sides 16 and 1'7 and the lower edge of the Waistband 12 will have fixed thereto at corresponding intervals female members 35 of snap fasteners, as diagrammatically illustrated in said figure. In addition to facilitating laundering, this will provide uses of the girdle independent of the panty insertion.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A girdle of the character defined comprising a body portion, an elastic waistband attached to and projecting above the body portion, the waistband having upper and lower edges, an all-way stretch panty arranged entirely within the body portion, an upper edge of the panty being attached to the body portion adjacent the upper end thereof and to the lower edge portion only of said elastic waistband, said parity being freely disposed within the body portion below said elastic waistband, the body portion of the girdle including front and rear wide centrally disposed panels extending the full length of the body portion, said body portion comprising all-way stretch side portions extending onto the front and rear of the girdle and attached to side edges of both of said panels, and said panels having contracted upper and lower ends.
