Abstract

932,740. Corsets. S. S. ALBERTS. Nov. 2, 1959 [Sept. 21, 1959], No. 37143/59. Class 141. A maternity garment includes a body portion 26 covering the sides, back, and part of the front of the wearer, and including material which is stretchable at least in the horizontal direction in the front part, an abdomen supporting front panel portion 27 of two-way stretch material, and a control strip 34 of longitudinally stretchable and laterally relatively non-stretchable material on each lateral side of the panel portion dividing the panel portion from the main body portion and being secured along its opposite sides to the respective panel and body portions. The front panel and body portion may both comprise two-way stretch material, either formed separately, the front panel being more easily stretchable than the body portion, or formed integrally from woven or knitted fabric. The body portion may consist of a vertically stretchable back section and separate horizontally stretchable front and side sections. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the control strip 31 is U-shaped and is longitudinally extensible throughout its length. In a modification the whole of the U-shaped strip is vertically stretchable and horizontally substantially non-stretchable. In a further modification, Fig. 12 (not shown), the arms of the U are vertically stretchable, while the base is formed separately and is horizontally stretchable. A sling 36 may be provided within the lower portion of the front panel. In another embodiment, Fig. 14, straight control strips 57, 58 converge towards the lower edge and are connected by a horizontal strip 59. The portion 60 below the strip 59 may be formed integrally with the body portion 26 or may be separate. A one-piece pantie girdle, Fig. 17, is reinforced by strips 62, 63 extending upwardly from the lower front edge, around the sides, and terminating at the upper rear edge. The strips may be connected at the front by a sling 36a and at the back by an elastic strip 67 with separable fasteners. The garment may be a girdle, pantie girdle, or tights.
