A girdle, panty girdle or corselette includes at least one front panel and at least one rear panel, each being extensible in at least one direction, the front panel extending substantially the full height of the garment and having a generally centrally disposed insert which may be extensible or inextensible, is of less height than the front panel and extends downwardly from the waist portion of the garment, and panels and/or seams of greater extensibility than the front and rear panels to relieve the figure-controlling pressure these panels exert on the wearer. In the panty girdle of Fig. 1 two-way stretch front and rear panels 18 and (20) (Fig. 3) have inserts 14 and (36) respectively extensible only vertically and are connected to side panels 48 and to innerthigh panels 28 by zig-zag elastic seams 50, (52) and 54, (56) respectively. Further zig-zag elastic seams extend downwardly and inwardly from a waistband 40. In another embodiment, the side panels are omitted and the inner-thigh panels 28 are made of readily extensible fish-net material. In a further embodiment the inner-high panels are of similar material to the front and rear panels but side panels extending the full height of the garment are made of readily extensible fishnet material. In a still further embodiment the side and inner-high panels are omitted and extension 8 of the front and rear panels form long leg portions which are relieved by a series of spaced inserts of zig-zag elastic stitching encircling each leg. The girdle of Fig. 9 comprises front and rear fishnet panels 74, (76) (Fig. 11, not shown) on which stocking suspenders may be mounted. This feature is also applicable to panty girdles.
