Description

May 16, 1933. M. c. HENNESSY COMBINED BRASSIERE AND STEP-IN Filed June 25, 1932 INVENTOR 7 y CJfanne-SSZ/ m 7 dc ATTORNEYS 1 ,1 1 I 4 11 1 I I Patented I May 16, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAIRY G. HENNISSY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,
INC., 015 NEW YORK, N. Y.,
connnmn BnAssIi-um AND STEP-IN Application filed June 25, 1932. Serial No. 619,299.
This invention relates to' garments and articularly to an improved combination Erassiere and step-in, the object being to rovide a garment of this kind which will 6 take the place of all under-garments including corsets.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved combination brassiere and step-in wherein the same is formed wlth inelastic front and rear sections and elastic side sections so positioned asto provide a desired constriction of the body at the waistline and over the hips without interfering with the movement ofthe body.
A- further object of the invention is to provide a combined step-in and brassiere which will resiliently hug the sides of the body and which presents hose supporting means so that the garment may act in the capacity of a supporting structure for hose.
In the accompanying drawing,-
Fi ure 1 is a perspective view of a combine brassiere and step-in disclosing an embodiment of the invention, the same being illustrated on a figure.
Figure 2 is a front view of the device shown in Figure 1, the same being on a sli htly enlarged scale.
igure 3 is a rear view of the device shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through Figure 2 on line 4-4. a
Figure 5 is a detail fragmentary enlarged view of part of one of the elastic sections il- 85 lustrating the net formation of the elastic.
Referrlng to the accompanying drawing by numerals 1 indicates the front section of the panelv and 2 the rear section of the panel connected by side sections 3 and 4. The
front and rear sections are made from some desirable cloth which is substantially inelastic, while the side sections 3 and 4 are made of a fabric embodying vulmnizedlatex threads, the same being an elastic netting which is sufliciently strong toconstrict somewhat the waistline'and hips without roducing an undesired pinching action, and y reason of its open mesh permit a desired circulation of air.
From Figures 1 and 2 it will be seen that the respective front and rear sections are constricted respectively at 5 and 6 so that at the waistline there is a wider portion of the elastic members 3 and 4 than at other oints. This is clearly illustrated at 7 in igure 4. It will be understood that the elastic members 3 and 4 are of identical shape so that the illustration in Figure 4 will illustrate both of the members.
A crotch structure 8 is provided having sections 9 and 10 secured together by suitable means, as, for instance, a button and buttonhole structure 11. A brassiere section 12 is provided with elastic pockets 13 and 14 with separating panels 15, 16 and 17 from the front 1 whereby proper support is provided. At the back, the brassiere section 12 is preferably provided with a rounded edge 18 which is somewhat lower in the front.
Connected to the step-in section 19 are suitable hose supporters 20 whereby the device will take the place of a corset as well as a brassiere and panties.
While it is possible to use the garment without the shoulder straps 21, these are desirable to cause the breast pockets 13 and 14 to function properly without causing an undesirable constriction.
The front and rear sections 1 and 2 are preferably inelastic, as above set forth, but the elastic side sections 3 and 4 are yieldable in all directions, and, therefore, permit the body to twist and turn readily to take any posture without injuring the garment or unduly resisting the action of the person.
However, when a person is standing substantially erect, as shown in Figure 1, there is only a slight constriction at the hips, and, if desired, there may be substantially no constriction at the waistline, though, ordinarily, a snug fitting and slightly constricting size is preferable. It will be understood that in each garment the same is of a certain size and is preferably adapted to a particular sized person, though slightly different sized persons may use the same garment without discomfort.
In order to readily get into the garment the brassiere section 12 is divided along the line 22, while suitable snap fasteners, such as 100 books and eyes, or other disengageable fastening means, are used to normally hold the parts .together. When it 1s desired to remove the device, the hose supporters are disengaged and the brassiere is opened along line 22. The shoulder straps 21 are then removed from the shoulders and the device may be readily forced down over the hips. To again don the device a reverse action takes place.
I claim 1. A garment of the character described including front and rear inelastic sections constricted substantially centrally, and a pair of side elastic sections connected to the front and rear inelastic sections, said elastic V sections diverging as they approach the waistline so as to have their W1 est portion at the waistline, and means forming with the center of the front and rear sections at their lower ends a step-in structure at the lower part of the garment while the upper part of the garmentmerges into a brassiere structure.
2. A garment of the character described comprising a front inelastic section, the sides of which are concave with the narrowest portion positioned at the waistline, breast pockets inserted in the upper part of said ront section, a rear section of substantially the same sha e as the front section and formed of ine astic material, a pair of side elastic sections diverging as they approach the waistline to fit said front and rear sections, and disengageable means connecting the front and rear sections at their bottom edges and forming with said sections and the side sections a step-in structure.
3. A garment of the character described comprism a front inelastic section the sides edges of w ich are concave with the narrowest part of the section at the waistline of the garment, a rear inelastic section of substantially the same shape as the front section, said front section having a pair of cut out portions at the top, breast pockets positioned in said cut out portions, and a pair of elastic openwork side sections substantially diamond shaped at the upper part with the widest portion at substantially the waistline and merging into curved sides at the lower end.
