Application February 15, 1951, Serial No. 211,079
1 Claim.
This invention appertains to womens wearing apparel, and more particularly to a onepiece bathing suit.
Much difficulty has been experienced in placing on and removing one-piece bathing suits, of the type now commonly found on the market, from the person, and one of the primary objects of my invention is to provide a one-piece bathing suit, so constructed that the same can be quickly placed on and taken 011 the person, without any necessity of stooping over and pulling the garment over the limbs and body.
Another salient object of my invention, is to provide a one-piece bathing suit formed from a single blank of material, whereby the same can be folded about the person and thereafter certain edge portions secured together to provide a form fitting garment having an attractive appearance.
A further object of my invention is to provide a one-piece bathing suit which can be manufactured and fabricated from a desired material at a low cost.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more specifically described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the new and improved bathing suit applied to a person.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the bathing suit in its spread out unfolded position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter B generally indicates the improved bathing suit and the same is formed from a single blank of sheet material, such as fabric, plastic or the like, but preferably from waterproof satin. The blank includes an upper back portion 5 having two lateral extensions 6 and 1 adapted to be folded around the sides of a person and over the front to cover the breasts. These lateral extensions 6 and 1 have sewed, or otherwise secured thereto, tabs or ribbons B, which are adapted to be tied together so as to constitute a brassire. Extending down from the upper back portion 5, is a narrowing lower back waist portion 9 and an enlarged central portion l0, adapted to be folded around and to enclose the buttocks. The front of the garment includes an abdominal portion 8 l and this portion and the buttocks portion it are joined together by an integral narrow crotch portion 127 It is to be noted that the abdominal portion l I, gradually narrows inwardly toward the crotch portion I2, and that the buttocks portion It] includes lateral wings 13, which are folded about and extended toward the front of the person, as best shown in Figure 1. The respective edges of the wings t3 and the abdominal portion H, are provided with complementary slide sections 14 of slide fasteners of a type commonly known in the market and customarily called zippers. The runners l5 for the slide fasteners, can be carried by a preferred part of the bathing suit B, such as the abdominal portion II. In applying the bathing suit to the person, the back part 5 can be initially placed in position, and the lateral extensions 6 and l folded about the person, and tightened by the tabs 8, after which the runners it can be drawn up to closely unite the wings It with the abdominal portion I! to draw the garment closely around the person.
Obviously, the bathing suit can be quickly and conveniently applied to the person, and easily removed by merely untieing the tabs 8 and pulling down on the zipper.
The bathing suit can be ornamented in any desired way, such as by bows, hand painted designs, etc. The outer edge of the abdominal portion H can carry an elastic band so as to insure the fitting of this part against the stomach.
Likewise, for ornamentation of preference, shoulder straps can also be secured to the upper edge of the back portion 5 and the extensions 6 and 1.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or the scope of this invention, but what I claim as new is:
A one piece garment formed from a single blank of material, comprising a pair of trunks and an upper chest portion, including front and rear portions and an integral connecting narrow crotch portion, said rear portion including lower wings foldable over the sides of the wearer and terminating adjacent the front of the abdomen and upper wings foldable over the chest of the wearer, said upper wings having front edges terminating in juxtaposition adjacent the upper middle of the chest of the wearer, fastening means for the front edges of said upper wings, said front portion being of a triangular shape narrowing toward the crotch portion, and releasable means connecting the side edges of the front portion and the outer edges of the lower wings.
