UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAROLD D. ROSE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO MODEL BRASSIERE 00.,
OF NEW YORK,-N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
LADYS UNDERGARMENT.
hpplication filed June 8, 1927. Serial No. 197,286.
The invention relates to undergarments and more particularly to ladies undergarments of the confining type such as brassieres, corset brassieres, girdles and the like, and has forits object to provide such an undergarment of novel and distinctive structure and characteristics. The invention contemplates particularly the provision-of an under arment of the indicated class which acts to atten the human diaphragm, supports and restrains the abdomen by means of specially designed and located elastic gussets located along the topand bottom of an internal belt, controls the waistline and avoids the usual unsightly. bulging of the body, and confines surplus flesh of the lower figure without interfering with the freedom of movement of the wearer. The inventioncontemplates further a garment. of the indicated class which gives to the bust the desired natural contour and corrects flatness and bulkiness at the indicated parts of the body. Other objects will appear from the description hereinafter and the features of novelty will be pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which out defining its limits, Fig. 1 is an inside face view of a confining garment embodying the novel features; Fig. 2 is an exterior view illustrating the garment as it appears when being worn, and Fig. 3 is an interior side view of the garment.
. The garment itself comprises a main outer section which, in all cases, is constructed in accordance with the particular purpose for which the garment is designed and the class of confining'undergarments to which said garment relates; in the illustrated example the main section is of-the corset brassiere type and consists of a front portion 10 and a rear portion 11, both portions being permanently connected at one end and at their opposite ends being provided with cooperating fastening devices such as hooks and eyes 12 whereby the garment is removably fastened in place upon the wearer. Theis being worn. The belt consists of a major section 14 and a minor sect1on15, each having one end secured in the garment, prefer-' ably in the rear portion 11 of the outer sec- Fig. 1. Upon opposite sides of said upward projection 18 the belt section 14 is provided with inserted elastic gussets 19 of downwardly tapering form and terminating at intermediate points of said belt section 14. The latter is further provided with additional elastic gussets 20 projecting upwardly from the lower edge thereof and terminating at a distance from the apices of the gussets 19. The gussets 20 are located in approximate registry with the gussets 19 and converge upwardly toward their upper edges which preferabl are out along in-- clined lines 21 as illustrated in Fig. 1. The belt sections Hand '15 may further each be provided with elastic inserts 22 extending vertically across said belt sections throughin registry with the projecting portion 18 and additional bones 24 may be located in said belt section 14 upon opposite sides of the bones 23 if desired.
The garment is worn in the customary manner and the belt sections are secured in place about the body of the wearer by connecting the fastening devices 16 with each other, after, which the-fastening devices 12 may be connected together to fasten the outer main section of the garment in place. When in position upon the person, the upward projection 18 of the internal belt'ex-,.
tends between the busts of the wearer with the curved upper edge 17 of the belt section 14 lying below the same as will be clear from the illustration in Fig. 2. The action of the gussets 19 and 20 is such that the belt will be comfortably anchored close to the body and maintain the diaphragm in a flattened condition at all times regardless of whether the wearer assumes sitting or standing positions. The gussets 19 and 20 are specially designed to act as sup orts and to restrain the abdomen without discomfort to the wearer. The garment furthermore controls the waistline perfectly and does away with customary unsightly bulges which are ofttimes present with existing garments. The novel confining garment furthermore acts upon the thighs and confines any surplus flesh of the lower figure while at the same time permitting absolute freedom of movement. In addition, the garment gives a middle contour to the busts and corrects unstylishness and undesirable flatness .or
. bulkiness.
While the invention is illustrated and described with respect to a confining garment of the corset brassiere type, it is to be understood that it may be used with equal efficiency in connection with confining garments of other types such brassieres, girdles and the like.
Various changes in the specific form shown and vdescribed may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a confining garment of the kind described, the combination of a main outer section adapted to be detachably secured upon the wearer, a belt located upon the inside of said main section and arranged to surround the human body interiorly of said main section, said belt comprising a major section and a minor section, each having one end secured to the outer section, a single set of fas tening devices for detachably fastening said belt in place about the human body, the niajor belt section being provided with an up-] ward projection extending between the busts and having its upper edge curved in opposite directions from said projection, a pair of V-shaped elastic gussets in said major belt section projecting downwardly from the upper edge thereof at opposite sides of said upward projection at points equidistant therefrom and having their apices located at intermediate points of said main section, and
a pair of additional elastic gussets in said major belt section converging "u wardly from the lower edge thereof and having their upper edges at a distance from the apices of said V-shaped gussets, the said upper'inner edges diverging upwardly and away from the vertical center line of said major belt section.
"2. In a confining garment of the kind described, the combination of a main outer section adapted to be detachably secured upon the wearer, a belt located upon the inside of said main section and arranged to surround the human body interiorly of said main section, said belt comprising a major section and a IIllIlOI' section, said sections having one end secured to the outer section, a single set of fastening devices for detachably fastening said belt in place about the human body, the major belt section being provided with an upward projection extending between the busts and having its upper edge curved in opposite directions from said projection, a pair of V-shaped elastic gussets in saidmajor belt section projecting downwardly from the upper edge thereof at opposite sides of said upward projection. at
points equidistant therefrom and having HAROLD D. ROSE.
