' have a greater utility for reducing due to constant massaging or kneading of the flesh by said material when the corset is worn. In carrying out the above objects I also aim to have the corset made in a composite form of simple construction, and yet possessing greater strength and utility than the average type of reducing corset.

For a full understanding of the invention reference should be made to t 1e accompanying drawings forming a par of this application, and in which: Fig. l is a front View of the preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in application;

Fig. 2 is a View of the same corset opened; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front View of the corset withbindings and coveringsbroken away at the edges; and

Fig. 4 is a front view of a modification of the invention illustrated in application.

Referring to the drawings the numeral 10 designates the'preferred form of corset having an abdominal band 11, of elastic material such as rubber, to the forward ends of which are secured the stay members 12, carrying the interengageable fasteners 13, for securing the corset in position on the wearer. A back stay member 14, is also attached to the abdominal band 11, at the approximate center thereof. All of the stay members preferably include a covering of suitable cloth to protect the skin.

The body of the corset is composed of a plurality of elastic strips 15, the ends of which are secured to the abdominal band 11, stay members 12and 14, and the binding 16 around the bottom of the corset..- The binding 16 and abdominal band 11 are in a substantially parallel plane with'respect to each other, andat substantially right angles to the stay members 12 and 14, all of which stay members are'substantiallyparallel with respect to each other. The elastic bands 15 are interwoven in basket-weave 1 manner, and closely interwoven to form the proper. It should be clear from the fact that the strips 15 are interwoven in basket-- weave manner that they include two groups of strips, each group including parallel strips at right angles, or substantially right angles to the other group, and that all of the strips are diagonally disposed with respect to the band 11, stays 12 and 14, and binding'16. On each side of the corset and at the front thereof, one of the strips or bands 15 is continued down beyond the binding 16, and turned up again to form the loop 17, which carries the hose fastener 18. In this manner a hose supporter can be formed integral with the body of the corset and form a part thereof, and eliminate the attachment of separate garters to the gar-- points as above specified, or that the bands can be formed of a continuous webbing. For lnstance by reference to Fig. 2, where one of the bands is indicated by the letter A, its course can be traced thru the arrows from the abdominal band 11 across to the the stay member 12 where A is folded and stitched, then continued at right angles to its, original course to the bindinu'lG, where it is again folded and stitched, then continued parallel to its original course hack to the band 11, where it is again folded and stitched, then continued parallel to its second course to the stay member 14, where" it is again folded and stitched, and continued to the binding 16 where it is again stitched, and without folding continued in the same path downwardly beyond the binding 16 and looped up to the corner of the stay member 12 where it is stitched. adjacent band running in the opposite direction therebeneath. It will be apparent from the above that the bands 15 canbe formed of one or more strips of elastic material, and so interwoven as to form a checkered surface of double thickness, as well as hose supporters.

In Fig. 4, I illustrate a modification in. which the corset 20 is substantially the same as the corset 10, except that the bands 21 forming the body of the corset are of broader dimension, and also theadjustable lacing 22 is inserted between the stay member 23 and the binding 24, to which the bands 21 are secured'along the front edge of one side. It may be preferable in this form of corset to attach hose supporters 25' to the corset instead of forming the supporters from the bands 21, due to the greater width thereof.

In operation, When'the corset is applied as shown in Figs. 1 and 4 by placi'ngthe band 11 around the abdomen and engaging the fasteners on the front stays with each other, the checkered surface of interwoven, crossing bands 15 or 21, will be next to the skin, and due to the elasticity thereof will grip the flesh of the wearer. Obviously, when the portions of the body so gripped are extended as-in walking, bending, etc., the action of the various bands will be in I different directions and different proporvaried as desired, the manner of securing I desire to point out that numerous slight changesand modifications can be made and resorted to wrthoutdepartmg from the spirit-of the invention orthe scopeofthe appended claims. For instance, the material and size of the elastic bands can be the bands to the bindings can be by other than stitching, the back stay can be eliminated, and the number or presence of the stays varied at will. It is just as much within the scope of the invention to weave the entire corset at one operation and from continuous webs, as to make the same from one or more individual strips. I claim as my invention:

1.A hip reducing corset extending from the waist line to a point below the hip line and including stay members, an elastic body encircling portion having a closed surface of interwoven crossing elastic bands secured to and extending between said stay members to exert diverging massaging movements on the body, said elastic bands being tightly interwoven .thruout their extent to close the ing substantially parallel to each other and at substantially right angles to the stay members, anda plurality of crossing elastic bands secured diagonally between said stay members and encircling bands to embrace the body and exert thereon divergent massaging movements, said elastic strips'being tightly interwoven to .form a closed elastic surface thruout their extent to prevent ventilation thru the corset.

3. A hip reducing corset including front and back stay members, a waist encircling band secured to said stay members adjacent the tops thereof, a second band secured to said stay members adjacent the bottoms thereof to encircle a portion of the body below the hip line, a group of parallel elastic strips diagonally secured between said stay members and encircling bands, and a second group of parallel'elastic strips se-. cured in the opposite diagonal direction,

from the first group between said stay members and encircling bands, said first and second groups of elastic strips crossing and being closely interwoven to prevent ventilation and to provide an elastic covering for all portions of the body between the stay members and encircling bands which will exert divergent massaging movements on said portions of the body upon movement of said portions of the body.
