To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, G'Usrav A. BADER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specication.

This relation relates to caps such as are worn by automobiliste, or others who have occasion to wear eye-shields or goggles.

It is customary for automobiliste, when riding, to protect the eyes by shields or goggles which are held in place by means of elastic bands passing around the head. Then the user of such goggles, owing to stoppage of the vehicle, or any other cause, finds it unnecessary, for a short time, to use the goggles, they are usually left upon the head though removed from the eyes, it being customary to merely raise them above the vizor of the cap. In this position the goggles are conveniently ready for use, b ut they are liable to be soiled by dust or rain, or otherwise, and they also present a more or less unsightly appearance.

The principal object of the present invent-ion is to produce apcap which will permit the goggles to be used in the convenient manner above described, while at the same time providing for their complete protection when not in use, and also to provide means for concealing t-he goggles in such a way that their presence on the head of the wearer is not apparent when they are not in use.

To the end described I propose to employ a cap so constructed as to provide, at the front, a pocket or receptacle into which the goggles may be inserted without removing the cap from the head. This receptacle is preferably formed by the body of the cap itself, this body having usually a loose or full portion projecting forwardly overthe vizor, which is well adapted to serve this purpose. By employing this space at the front of the cap I am enabled to produce a device for the required purpose which in no way alters the appearance of the cap, so that when the goggles are inserted in the cap their presence is not apparent.

It will be apparent that the construction just described, while particularly useful in connection with goggles, may also be conveniently employed to produce a receptacle in which other articles may be conveniently carried and concealed, and a cap embody- Specification of Letters Patent.

ing the present invention is, therefore, useful for fishermen, hunters and others, who desire to carry small articles in a convenient and readily accessible place.

In carrying out the foregoing invention I employ, in the preferred embodiment of the invention, a simple and inexpensive construction which constitutes a feature of the invention, and which is hereinafter described and claimed.y

In the accompanying drawings :hFigure l is a vertical, median sect-ion of a cap embodying the present invention, together with a pair of goggles inclosed therein; and Fig. 2 is a simi ar section showing the goggle-receptacle in open position.

The invention is illustrated as embodied in a cap of a well-known style. This cap comprises a body-portion 3 of any suitable material, provided at the front with a vizor 4 and at the back` with a flap 5 which may be worn either in the raised position illustrated, or turned down against the neck. The cap is also provided with the usual ear iaps 6. The flaps 5 and 6 are not essential, however, to the present invention, although the vizor t is employed in the preferred embodiment thereof.

As is usual in caps of the style in ques` tion, the front of the body 8 is provided with considerable fullness or surplus material forming a forward projection or pouch 7 which rests upon the vizor 4. The space 8 within this part of the cap is utilized, in the present invention, as a receptacle for the goggles. To this end the edge of the body at the front is not sewed in the usual manner to the lining 13 and the viZor, but is left loose and provided with an elastic drawstring 10. In the normal position of the cap this draw-string holds the edge of the body in the position of Fig. 1, the material being more or less puclrered along the edge at this time. When it is necessary to open the goggle-receptacle, however, this may be readily done by pulling the part 7 forwardly and upwardly, thus stretching the draw-string and producing an opening into the space 8 as shown in Fig. 2. In the normal position of the cap the part 7 is preferably secured to t-he vizor, in the usual manner, by means of det-achable catch-members 9 of any wellknown form.

In connection with a cap of the style described the elastic band or strap by which the goggles are held in place is usually passed inside of the ear flaps 6 and the rear llap 5, as shown at 12 in Fig. 1. When the goggles are not to be used the goggle-receptacle is opened, as in Fig. 2. The goggles are then drawn forwardly, stretching the band 12 so that they may be passed around and over the visor d, and the band 12 then holds the goggles in the position of Fig. 1, in the space between the body 3 and the lining 13 of the cap. The drawstring 10 then holds the gogglereceptacle in closed posi tion, thus completely protecting and concealing the goggles, and the catch-members 9 are also preferably Jfastened together as in Fig. 1.

It Will be obvious that the invention, in its broadest aspects, may be employed in conneetion with caps of various styles and forms, and that it is not limited to the embodimen't thereof hereinbetore described,but may be embodied in various other forms within the nature of the invention as it is deiined in 'the following claims.

l claim 1. A cap comprising a body and a viZor and. provided at the front, above the vizor, with an opening through which articles may be introduced into the body of the cap Without removing it from the head of the wearer,

and With means :tor normally holding said opening closed.

2. A cap comprising a body, a vizor, and a lining, the edge of the body being free adjacent the vizor so that it may be raised to allord an opening through Which articles may be inserted into the space between the body and the lining at the front of the cap Without removing the cap from the head.

3. A cap comprising a body, a vizor and a lining, the edge of the body being free adjacent the `viZor so as to afford an opening through Which articles may be inserted into vthe space between the body and the lining, and means for detachably fastening the body to the vizor.
