FOB-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE M. REEs, a

citizen of the United States, residing aty Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and` State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fob-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to clasps, and more especially to such as are employed for holding the fob ribbon; and the object of the same is to permit the replacing of said ribbon without the necessity for sewing or the use of any tools. This end is accomplished by the construction hereinafter more fully. described and claimed, and as shown in the drawings wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fob held in place by its improved clasp; Fig. 2 is a front elevation on an enlarged scale, the parts slightly separated; Fig. 3 is a central vertical longitudinal section; Fig. 4; is a vertical transverse section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

ln the drawings' the numeral l designates the body member which is of sufficient thickness to have recesses 2 in its extremities, of a length a little greater than the ribbon R which is to be employed, and of a height about as shown; and by preference this body has a shoulder 3 around its upper edge, above which it has a fanciful bail 4 into whose center may take the ring 5 which connects the fob with the watch or chain in a manner which will be clear.

The numeral 6 designates a band which is of metal as also by preference are the remaining parts of this fob holder. This band is of a size to slide over and loosely inclose the body l, and when in place it rests upward against the shoulder 3.

The numeral 7 designates a loop of wire, having its ends 8 turned upward and inward into hooks adapted to engage said recesses 2, and the wire of which this is made is preferably slightly resilient so that the hooks can be sprung into place as shown and of such size that it will be inclosed loosely by the band 6.

The parts of this holder being separated as shown, when it is desired to apply the ribbon it is laid over the depressed center of the loop with the hooks 8 rising past the edges in the ribbon as will be clear, the band is then slipped over the loop down onto the ribbon, the hooks are then sprung slightly apart and placed within the recesses 2, and finally the band is moved upward past the loop and onto the body until it strikes under the shoulder 3. In this movement the band is caused to bind the ribbon against opposite sides of the loop 7 and therefore the same is held frictionally in place; and the extremes or ends of the band pass outside the ends S of the loop and therefore said ends are held firmly within said recesses 2 and the parts cannot become separated. But even if this should happen, the band will only slip downward on the ribbon until it strikes the charm which usually hangs therefrom.

All parts of this device are by preference of metal, and may of course be ornamented as desired.

What is claimed as new is:

l. The herein described fob holder comprising an upright flat body having recesses in its ends and a shoulder around its upper edge, a bail rising from the latter', a wire loop having its ends turned upward and inward into hooks adapted to be sprung into said recesses, and a metal band whose opening is of a width to receive the fob-ribbon and loop and to pass over said body and of a length to pass outside the ends of said loop and hold them in said recesses, the upper edge of the band resting against said shoulder when in place and its lower edge depending over the ribbon.

2. The. herein described fob holder comprising an upright flat body having recesses in its ends, means along its upper edge for attaching it to a watch chain, a wire loop having its ends turned upward and inward into hooks adapted to be sprung into said recesses, and a metal band whose opening is of a width torreceive the fob-ribbon and loop and to pass over said body, and of a length to pass outside the ends of the loop.
